Default Devilish34's BOOM

Well along with MikeP and several other Devilish34 broke his car Saturday also.

Although John's isn't as impressive as all the parts mikep broke he did manage to break the drivers side axle. Here are some pics of the axle and the diff. I didn't take the diff apart yet but it did mess up the splines in the carrier when the axles broke and there is a 1/2 long piece of axle somewhere in side the diff

Thats not where I would think an axle would break. I'm curious as to how/why it broke there and what the diff looks like

yeah I am not sure why it broke where it did either. It should have been engaged all the way up the splines not just the end. Almost seems like the axles was popped out or something.

New diff should be here Monday. Not sure when the axle will show up though hopefully by mid week.

Thats what someone else said but we'll see what you find when you open the diff

And if anyone asks that rubber is a rust inhibitor

Definitely odd the splines are only torn up on the outter end ive seen splines torn clean off the axle all together but never like that, looks like the axle may have walked alittle

Well if you look at the pics you can see that is seared off the 3/8 of an inch at the end right were the snap ring retaining ring rides. they ground off the end. I could see the snap ring still in the diff.

Well once I got it off my trailer at work I only made it about 30 ft before it stopped moving forward. Then it would only move in reverse. I drove it into the shop backwards

Still I can't believe John's bone stock g8 did this on street tires on wet pavement

Yeah surprising for a car that runs a mid 14...according to the guy driving a rusted notch-back with a cracked windshield.
