To get a 408 out of an ls1 block you would have to have the block sleeved. It would be much smarter to get a ls2 block and go for a 402, or iron block if you arent worried about the weight. There are tons of different turbo kit's, which one might depend on your goals.

I was thinking the same deal by going 408 iron because it can withstand alot more pressure and combustion! i dont think it would be that much heavier than a LSX. I wonder if it would be smarter to keep it N/A and go 408ciLSX High Compression?

well you definitely want to go into the proper section for it then. We only know FI in here!
What you should be asking is whats the best setup for your budget.

Sorry for the late response! Yes thats exactly what i would like too know *** well. Would it make a giagantic difference if i where to keep my original LS1 and leave it 348ci and just rebuild it with new bearings and rings and a good hone and put a T4/ST80? Or go with a 408ci with that turbo? would i see a dramatic change in the HP numbers?

Stock style cubes with a ST80 would be a animal for sure. Just look at some of the folks running the ST80.....9's @150+

If you stay stock block buy good rods and forged pistons, arp mains are good idea, rod bolts and head studs as well. Stock cranks are pretty strong.Stock pistons are weak, rod bolts are another weak link and stock rods are so so.
Or go iron block think its about 80 pounds heavier. I have lighter bmr kmember helps to offset weight of iron block but then my turbos, big intercooler, piping add back some weight.

your stock motor cant be a 408 you need a
6.0l iron block
callies -25cc pistons
callies rods
callies crank
tfs heads
9.0 to 1 compression
and a turbo with a turbine side over 80mm
in a light car it will go 8s
