Default Why does this happen in the rain?

I'm lost at what to do guys. Every time I drive in the rain, my car loses like half of its power and I have to rev it up to redline to get it back to normal idle. Has anyone had this problem?

I've never experienced it, but I know that some ram air kits have a problem sucking up water, but I don't know if it would cause that. Do you have anything like that installed?

lol....well, i'm no help. Just thought I'd try something!

Strange problem, hope its something simple, and sorry I couldn't help!

WAIT! Does it makes a lot of noise too? I've experienced something like that before (loss of power and a ton of racket below the hood) on my Oldsmobile in really heavy rains before, but I never really fixed it, it just went away.

Try checking your o2 sensors. I had a similiar problem in the rain as well. It would almost die under normal throttle but WOT would run fine. I was getting water in the wires because they were dragging against the ground which was shorting them out. Check them for cuts or exposed wire and replace them if they are bad. Make sure you zip tie them up to something to keep them out of the water. Hope this helps...

i've had similar problems with o2 sensors.

after driving through a puddle. it would drive great when dry, but once it rained (even wet pavement) it would start to misfire.

Are you throwing any codes when this happens? If your O2 sensors are the culparate then you should throw a code.

the last time this happened to me....no code.

SES flashed for about 30 sec and the car ran really rough....

car smoothed out, light stopped blinking....no SES.

waiting for another rain storm to test the theory.....if my damn scanning software would work i'd just go watch the fuel trims.

well. when i do drive in the rain, sometimes the SES light flashes on and off but then goes away. I did end up checking underneath the car and saw an O2 sensor wire hanging down and tucked it above the LT's but it didnt look scuffed or anything so.. and since ive done that it has rained a little but i guess not hard enough for me really to tell if its doing it again.

^^^ you could have melted the wire did you check that? if you sucked up some water you could have damaged the MAF, it could need a cleaning or need to be replaced. if your ses starts to flash that is a misfire, its either injector, coil, wire or spark plug causing the misfire check all those. make sure the Idle air control solinoid is functioning but that should throw a code

Ok I'm going to give you my idea. We had a truck do this too in the mornings. It was a bad spark plug wire the was shorting due to moisture. My guess is you got long tubes and it melted a wire a little exposing a bare wire. Now when you drive in the rain the mist will get up in the the engine and short out the wire. So now when you rev it it will heat up the headers and dry the wire. Wala motor runs good again. The SES light is because of a misfire when the spark plug doesn't fire. Our truck ran fine too once it was warmed up and dried out.

Now for the fix. Take a spray bottle and mist the wires over the motor. You should be able to tell which side it is and fix it.

Try it and lets us know
