drag radials and tire size question
its time for new tires, i currently have 315/35/17's radials and i am stuck deciding on which drag radial to go with, if any...here is my problem...i live in missouri and the weather here is unperdictable and rains all the time it seems. soo, what would be the best drag raidial if i were to get cought in the rain on the interstate or something like that?
also i have noticed that the sumatumo tires that i have now are a little more narrow than the rim so i would like to go a little wider if possible... what would that tire size be though? i havent had much luck finding anything wider.
-i have also heard that the nitto 315 are more like a 255...not cool
Thanks

Is it a DD? I have M/T ET streets and have driven them in the rain but not over 50 mph and was VERY careful. They get great traction on dry pavement though. Mine is not a DD.

pretty much my same situation. other thing you have to worry about with it being a dd is how long it will last. the nittos are supposed to last a good bit longer then the m/t

nittos are probably your best bet... they will outlast the other drag radials in treadwear and grip decent in dry weather, not the best but definitely better than any street tire... the contact patch of the tire isn't any narrower than any other brand but they don't have a sidewall on them so that's what makes them appear smaller... i try my best not to drive my car in the rain since it isn't a dd but i got caught in a light rain one day on the way home from work and i didn't really notice a difference with the nittos... i think they will do ok in light-moderate rain as long as you're careful... your suspension setup will be a factor as well

never used nittos before but i was shocked at my BFG dr's performance in the rain. i got them used with only the shoulders of tread left, and they still outperformed my street tires on wet roads. hooked like nobodys business too.

The Toyo Proxes TQ DR's are the best DD DR out there, period. They hook better than Nitto's, drive in bad weather conditions better than Nitto's, and are alot wider than Nitto's. They last about 10k miles, maybe a little bit longer if you take it easy. They are going to hook as close to MT's as you can get, without giving up wet driveabilty.
Not alot of people are recomending these tires, only because they are still pretty new. I don't think alot of people even know that Toyo makes a DR.
You can pick these up for $155 a pop. Buy them, and you will not be dissapointed.
Damn, I should be a spokesperson for Toyo. Let me know if you have any questions. I wrote a review, and there are a couple of other reviews out there too if you search. Just type in "toyo proxes tq" in the search bar, and the threads should pop up.

You can also use a 285 on a 9 or 9.5" wheel. Not sure if anyone makes a 285 DR though.
