Default something fishy here......

I ran across this post/add over at "another forum" (we good mods?). You guys read through it and see if this guys numbers even come close to adding up. Looks like for $7200 I could be a 850HP hero with a stock bottom 5.3! Wow!Who knew? Ok. mods dumped my link so here is what the poster at, ehem, another site posted.

"First off, this is on a 2001 GMC sierra 5.3 truck. Which means its the same for 4.8 and 6.0 trucks as well. I think the kit will even bolt on to about 90% of the 99-06 trucks with maybe a few tweeks to the kit. But you get the idea.

Ok, I am putting this out here to see if anyone is interested in a serious turbo kit. This is a no Joke kit. Full tubular headers, ball bearing turbos, ect. Everything!. This is the second kit I built for my truck and now I am looking at taking it all off and fabricating some other things for the truck now.

The headers are 304 stainless with a true short merge collector which was made to slip in to the T3 turbo flange. This way the airflow is direct to the turbo and hits no edges.

The wastegates are Tial 38mm gates. I have springs for 10psi base or 14 psi base. Its your choice.

All the hot pipes are all 304 stainless as well. The Cold side is mild steel. The intercooler is a two in and one out style for max efficiency.

The kit made almost 850hp with 18psi of Boost on a stock bottom 5.3 with a camshaft. Gas was 91 octane and Meth injection.

I am asking $7250.00 for this kit which is will also include the 60lb injectors. There is a lot of time and money in this kit. I would like only serious people to contact me for questions because I feel this kit would make serious power for anyone looking to use this.

The turbos are Garrett GT ball bearing, GT3071's, .84 housings on the exhaust side
."

They then posted a pic of a chassis dyno showing 847hp corrected. At 847 RWHP that equates to a 1000CHP stock 5.3. Huummm......here are some pics

Synergy Motorsports is one of the LS shops you don't hear much about but they do pretty good work. I think he is selling that same kit on here also.

I don't know about the 850 hp on the stock bottom end but 18 psi and meth will make some good power. Now that 7200 price tag is a lil steep. You probably could talk to Josh at Kentucky Turbo and he could build you something for cheaper than that and it will work just as good.

That link states 850hp, not rear wheel horsepower. Very possible. May not live very long, but yeah. Rick@Synergy had pics of a turbo system up on Performance Trucks at one time. I wonder if it is the same kit, I can't see pics at work.

my point was that I've built a couple of 5.3 turbo motors and so have other members here and the stock botom end comes apart right around 700-750 crank hp. One of ours is 680 crank HP with 16 psi and meth on a single turbo. He is claiming 850 HP on a chassis dyno (dyno sheet states Chassis dyno and has MPH readings so I doubt it is a motor dyno) so that is about 1012 crank HP giving him 18% driveline losses with an auto. The fab work is nice but come on, 1000hp stock 5.3? those are the same numbers that people put up with an all forged 408 and a PT88+. Thats where I say the numbers don't add up

We have done 825/827 With a junk yard LQ9 (2 Seasons on that one). 681rwhp with a 5.3l through 35's, 4l80e and a 14 bolt.

That makes the 5.3 around 830-860 crank hp. Still a long ways away from the 850 RWHP that the link is claiming. Thoses are good numbers through a heavy drive trian though! Rock on!

Dyno Graphs are easily altered. I am doubtful of that much RWHP on a stock 5.3 block.

Im not sure whats going on at 3800rpms....look like a shift or something...

+1 with the ...

Besides all the stock parts still holding together, is 60lb'ers even enought to support that power level? If it was flywheel hp, it would be more plausible..

I had thought of the 60lb injector issue at that power level but if you are running high fuel pressure say in the 70-75psi range and adding alot of meth then you can get away with the smaller injectors. Just no room for error and the duty cycle would be maxed out. We just dyno'd an 08 Z06 with a superchrger @6 psi and 60 lb injectors. They were running at 85% DC at 567 RWHP no meth.

Meth + boost referenced fuel pressure could get you there provided you have enough pump. The rwhp number is also doable. Doable for a long time? Doubtfull. It's alot easier to throw up the dyno number than to have to run it down the track at that power level with a big heavy truck on top of it.

Just for the record, I am not knocking his skills as a fabricator, I am questioning his HP numbers. I have seen some of the rigs they build. Nice looking stuff. But in all fairness I have seen honda dyno queens that hit a huge peak HP number for a split second and then blow up. Usually the owners are like "yea I made 782HP" but neglect to say it was for 2.3 seconds and then splat! Seems like false advertsing to me

If it will help you understand better he tunes on a dynopack.Which means you unbolt the drive wheels and bolt them to a hub attached to the dyno.It does seem to read high I had my truck tuned there seemed about 20-30rwhp high. Then again take into account the wheels are off it makes sense.

well if this is the same guy then here is his "stock 5.3" with twin 62's

"i recently picked up a set of twin T62s for silverado. i have a set of Lunaity pro billet I beam rods and crank left over from my 408 i going to use and another set of eagle crank and rods for other motor."

now I can definately see the HP numbers if he had a full forged bottom end and turned it up to about 24psi!
Anyways, this is purely for my own amusement. I list all of my failures as I am no better than anyone else. I just like to poke fun at peoples claims from time to time. I've had my say, you guys hash it out.

Rick at Synergy has no reason to claim something that is untrue. I know Rick personally, hell Ive rode in that truck many times with the owner before Rick and a few times since Rick has owned it. That truck has seen turbo, to roots SC, back to turbo with the stock block and it ate all they could throw at it.

FWIW IMO the truck made that number at one point just to prove a point. If you want to call BS to someone making "wild claims" about a 5.3.... look up Parish.

quik is a local in my parts and I can vouch to what he posted about his setup is true. basically an all stock motor making 700hp and it has been around for awhile. It did not run 5 minutes and blow up.

So i think it is quite possible simply from seeing similar results in real life.
