Converter advice => TCI SSF3500
I'm am having my LT1 motor fully rebuilt and thought I may want to up my converter to deal with the bigger cam that is going in. Comp Cam's Extreme Energy grind .503/.510 224/230 112 LSA plus the additional lift from CC pro magnum 1.6 rockers.
I had a 12" 2800 stall from PMAC (Mike Kurtz in Houston) for years, but thought that the new bigger cam is going to move the power band up. On advice from local friends, I ordered the TCI SSF 3500. It's a 10" converter and I am very confident it will provide a harder hole shot than the PMAC 2800. The car is not back together yet, and the machine shop where I had my machine work done told me they felt the SSF 3500 was going to be too "radical" or too loose for my car ('94 Z28). However, these guys are "old school" and not very familiar with modding and racing late model F-bodies.
I would like input from those who have used the SSF 3500. How did it treat you at the track? Did you have to step up your tires to match? etc. How is it on the street? (Hopefully not a totally loose "pig").

The TCI SSF 3500 has excellent street manners, not loose at all on my car. My guess is that you want have the stock rear and thus have the addition of a lower gear ratio which will help tighten it up signifigantly. Great converter, Only I wish I would of went with a little more stall. Good Luck

I think you'll be very happy with the SSF 3500. It has good street manners, even with 3.23 gears. You'll also drop around 20 lbs of rotating weight with the swap.

thanks for the input. Glad to hear of racers who are satisfied (especially since I already bought it!)
I still have my original rear housing, but upgraded recently to a Zexel-Torsen posi carrier. I have GM 3.73 gears.
Best 60' I was ever able to get with the 2800 stall was a 1.78. Hoping to really improve on that with the TCI.

Thanks to all of you for the additional input. Makes me feel glad I bought that converter.
If I cut even high 1.6's I will be very happy. The car had run a best of 12.48 @112 with the previous motor. (11.92 @120 on spray spinning down the track) and I am hoping to break into the 11's on motor only with this new set up (bigger cam, more head work, slightly higher compression, and... higher stall of course).

Dam I cut 1.70s spinning alittle with the small 2800tci,1.60s are going to come easily with some good tires, Kevin is hooking me up in the spring maybe a 3800 with a 2.2 stater, Call and talk to kevin winstead if you are unsure,about the converter , hes a very nice guy to talk to .
