9yrs 4 mo's 9 days....
aug 28 of 2k was the last time i owned an f-body. a white a4 99z28. everyday since then i have thought about my 99z well fate sure is funny cause this car was meant to be! a white 98 z28 a4 got it a few days ago and i cant stop smiling! i had a t/a roller lined up and it was sold out from underneath me and i was pissed! about an hour later i found this one local to me and it was a done deal after some haggling i handed him $2800 and went home! was told it had 3.73 gears although im not sure if its true yet but does anyone know what rpm should be at 65 w/3.73? any ways gears, shiftkit, slp long tubes,ory,lm1 exhaust is what it has. theres 140k on the clock but im still happy as can be.
for sure needs some tlc im trying to get it back to looking good at the moment "need a bumpercover" and a few other things and hopefully it will be lookin good. then ill buy some go fast parts. anyways just thought id share and welcome any and all comments thanks guys jim.

245/50-16 most likely.
some had the 235/55-16 but these cars had the speedlimiter at 108 because this size tire isint speed rated above that. the 245's were an option as well as Z speed rated, so the speed limiter was raised to 162. best way is to just look at the sticker inside the drivers door.
and if you know someone with a tuner of some sort, (hp tuners, efi live etc...) you can get an accurate RPM and just do the math to figure out your rear end gears without pulling the cover. i dont know the formula off the top of my head, but if you know RPM's, tire diameter and MPH you can figure it out.
to simplify the math sorta, read your RPM's in D, not OD so the overall tranny ratio is 1:1

I would check the tire size issue first and if thats not it I would likely think 3.42s. The factory tachs may be off a couple hundred rpm at WOT and 6K but not cruising in 4th. All auto cars verify speed/mph/gears and we all match up perfect. Hell I guess all our tachs are off by 300 in the same direction huh
