drifting the ss.. is the rear end open?
hey there.. im kind of new.. i went from a 350z to a m6 2000 ss..
is the rear end of the ss open diff or lsd?
when i try to drift around a corner it seems like it will kick out and then one wheel will spin.. what can i do to change this? i just put a solid trans mount on my car and it changed things a lot..
but im still not liking the fact that i cant have both wheels spin around a corner..
also how hard is it to put 4.10 gears in?
tia for any advice

That's what I love about muscle-they can look that much better doing something that's usually left for imports. Check your 'diff out-it sounds like it died. I believe you can test the operation of the lsd by jacking the car up, turning one of the wheels by hand, and seeing if the opposite wheel turns with the wheel you're turning or not. If it turns, it's good. If not, then it's toast. I'm just guessing though, so someone correct me if I'm wrong...

One of the best drifters in the world uses a mustang, so it' not just a tuner sport anymore. I just got my car, and when I was changing the rims I spun one of the rear tires and the other tire didn't move, so I thought my posi was wasted, but when I launch it in the street, it leaves two nice posi marks,,,,,so that lsd diff is whats going on, just don't know the technical side of it. Mini spools are bad for these cars, I know that much. Especially for trying to drift corners.

Like stated the carrier (posi) is bad. The clutches will wear out. If you wanna go 4.10's that is a great mod but have someone with experience and the proper tools set it up. Backlash and pinion depth have to be set precisely or you will have a noisy rear or worse... Also do bearings while you are there because they commonly go also. Just about every one of these I have looked at have a leaky pinion seal....
Really the best advice is just start looking for a 9" or D60 and be done with it. Or find a used 10 bolt because it will be cheaper than fixing yours......

The stock Torsen only splits torque up to 2:1 and if
you unbalance the downforce so the "stuck" side is
favored, the back-torque of the spinning side won't
overcome the static friction.
A higher ratio chunk like the T-2R will spin them both,
so will a higher friction Auburn etc.
Of course as the stock Torsen wears, it may also be
less effective than it once was.
