radar detector mounting?
hey guys, i tried a search but didn't really find exactly what i was looking for. Do any of you know for a fact if the factory tint strip on our cars inhibits radar detector range if mounted above the rearview mirror?? I want to cleanly mount it to where it is out of site and hardwire it, but I don't want it to kill the range of it.

i have mine up there and hardwired. range is great considering it's the cheapest radar cobra makes haha. i guess the tint might hinder it a tiny tiny bit but i like it out of the way.

The factory tint will have no effect on radar detection but will reduce laser detection somewhat simply because of the reduced transmission of light. Radar is not affected by the color of the glass since it is merely dye without any reflective properties. On the other hand, aftermarket tint (film) often will reduce both radar and laser detection because of the metallic elements in the film reflecting and scattering the signal.

i've looked up the blendmounts. a little more than i really want to spend for something like that. however.. for you guys who have tested it.. is it better to velcro it to the dash or mount it above the mirror?

Before i had my blendmount i had my V1 above my mirror, never had any problems picking up long range Ka, K or X bands. Got hit with laser a couple times, but if they hit you with laser they got you by the time the radar lets u know.

got my hard wire kit put in today! really glad i bought it. the only thing now is I think my detector is going out. it acts like it doesn't have the range it used to. state troopers usually leave their radar on when they have someone pulled over don't they?
