Another reason to keep your heads up at any racing event. Saw video on ESPN Sportscenter this morning of the tire actually bouncing through the pits, but I don't think that one is on the internet yet. I'm sure it'll surface soon. Anyway, here's a few links to the incident...

This is a tragety.. but it's also something that can happen at any racing event.
I just hope that this doesn't make all the tracks put up huge fences and no longer allow sepctators in the pits anymore (make it like nascar is)
A huge part of going to a drag racing event, is being able to go around and see the cars, talk to the drivers, etc. I'd hate to see us lose that.

I think they need to look at some type of better wheel studs, or a wheel retention setup or something before they do that to the tracks, with the way things are today that could be enough to close a track down.
Maybe they need 6 or 8 wheel studs, or maybe go to a 1 inch stud or something that seems really overkill to us, but with what a 7000 hp car puts out for stress on that type of part, maybe it's needed.
Axle and rim companies sure would like to see a change like that I'm sure. Hopefully one of them gets on this right away and comes up with something.

They are talking about creating a wheel retention system something (from the way I understand) that is like what is on Indy cars. I am 110% in favor of something like that to prevent this from ever occurring again...
