About to tint my tails. Any write ups?
I bought a can of Rustoleum lens tint. I did my lights on my Comp g this morning. I just washed the lights to remove any wax, dirt, ect. Then I sprayed 2 light coats on the tails. Will this work the way I did it? I thought I read something about sanding the lights. But the ones I did look awesome! I want to tint my Camaro lights next. Just want to make sure the tint will last the way I tint them.

You don't need to scuff them. I didn't scuff mine on either vehicle and they're both a year and a half going strong, look like brand new. Some people say you need to, But I know of multiple people on here who haven't and don't have problems because of it. I would put some clear coat over it though.

^^^ your lucky then, always scuff before painting. As an automotive painter I've seen what happens to parts not scuffed or sanded, and it ain't pretty. Your best bet is to sand them wet with some 800 grit paper and then spray and clear. Takes a little more time but it's good to know it ain't gonna flake off

I'm sure it would be better to sand and do it right the first time, but the great thing about tinting tails is that if it looks like *** or you don't like it, just sand it down and do it again! I redid mine three times in two weeks to get them just as dark as I wanted them.

Post up some pics when you get a chance. Did you use VHT or what process did you use? I was thinking about doing this as well along with the Berger panel but am unsure on if I want to or not.

I used VHT nightshade on all my lights other then the headlights. I think it looks a lot better. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner. My only complaint is that my back up light portion of the taillight looks a little purple in daytime hours in the right light.
1. Scuff the lights with 3M scuff pad
2. Wipe lights with microfiber rag
3. Apply VHT a few coats at a time until desired shade
4. Wait 5-10 minutes. With VHT still tacky apply Duplicolor clear coat.
I used several coats of clear. Tried to get that deep look. Seemed like applying the clear coat heavy so it would pool gave me the best results.
There is several different detailed ways of using VHT on the site. Not sure if they way i did it was the best. I think they turned out nice though.
