TSP Off-Set Ground 396 cid Nearing Completion!
There has been some talk about off-set grinding the stock crankshaft, so I figured now was a good time to post up the information on the engine we have built for Jason's '99 Corvette. Here's the full spec sheet:
Stock LS1 Crank, off-set ground to 3.825" stroke
Carrillo Nascar 6.125" Rods
1.88 Rod Bearings
Diamond 4.060" Bore Pistons with 2cc valve reliefs
6.0L Iron Block Bored .060"
MTI Stage 3 6.0L Heads (321 cfm with 4.060" bore!)
TSP 238R Camhaft: 238/238, .605"/.605", 113 LSA
10.8:1 street compression
This equates to a 396 cid LS1. <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" /> If any of you have followed Jason's last setup (forged 346 that ran a best of 10.51 @ 138 MPH on a lazy 1.6x 60' with a TNT 150 shot) know that this new engine will get some nitrous use, too. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
We are looking to offer this package to our customers, but we want to do some testing on it first. We are not looking to make our customers the guinea pigs! The engine and suspension was installed last night, so we should fire it up this evening. We are wanting to offer a cheaper alternative for those wanting added cubes; I guess you can call it a budget stroker. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
We will keep everyone informed as the car progresses. We hope to have it on a dyno in the next 7-10 days, and it will be at the Spring Break Shootout running in the extreme street shootout.

Man, that's a cool new setup. A budget stroker is something I like to hear about!!! Keep us informed on the dyno results!!! Ought to be fun to watch at the shootout!

That is the setup i have been thinking about doing.If you did that same setup with eagle rods it would make a big difference in the cost for us poor people. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Also im sure you must have used Carr rod bolts witch are very expensive.
Eagle rods and ARP bolt's would make that setup perfect for a poor boy like me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

That also means less bearing area due to the smaller diameter.

Sorry to butt in on your post, On the strength issue if you do the crank properly with a nice thick radius on the fillets(rod journals), cryo treat and ion nitride it, I'm would bet it will be stronger than the stock piece even with the smaller journals. It looks like we had the same setup in mind, great minds must think alike!! Good luck on your project I have no doubts it will hold up to that shot of Nos if the crank is done right. Also rods and pistons are no problem and don't even require anything custom(4.030 or under) 4.060's do and all of these just need to be balanced, also you can do this of course with an aluminum block using a 3.903-5 bore and come up with 366 cu in.

I would also like to know how the price of this bottom end compares to that of the recent all bore setups. I was thinking of going with this as a budget stroker and hoping somone would produce this as a package and prove its reliability. Pleeease keep us informed on performance and $$$.

We offer MTI heads & blocks so if someone was crazy they could do a offset grind 4.155 bore aluminum setup <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

The heads figured out to be about 71.x chambers. The heads were opened up to the 4.060 bore by MTI <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> The pistons have -2cc reliefs, and we're using the .041 Felpro's <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
