You can either buy an expensive 4.125" stroke crank and pair it up with a 3.905" bore to get a 395.xx cid LS1, but we are not big fans of stroke over 4" in the LS1's. You could also take the resleeved block route with a 4.1" bore and 3.75" stroke. The cost would be considerably higher, and you'd have the wonderful worries of a leaking block. Our iron-block is guaranteed not to drop sleeves.

TREVOR,

Can you give me the specific reasons why you guys are not big fans of stroker cranks larger than 4.00 for LS1s.

THanks,

We are not big fans of going over 4" stroke because you do reach a point of diminishing returns. You gain piston speed and side-loading with the longer stroke, and we do not feel that it is worth the decreased longevity of the engine. You can make near identical power using a 4" stroke crank (holding camshaft and cylinder head selection constant).

There are plenty of guys out there using a 4.125" stroke crank with no problems and making nice power. We just choose not to go over 4" stroke.

I agree with Terry on this one, you don't need an iron block to do a big bore, it's not worth the extra 100 lbs. I'm going with an LS6 aluminum block and a 4.125" bore and stock 3.622 stroke for a 388, no expensive darton sleeves. My block is guarateed not to leak or drop sleeves either , AAP uses a stepped sleeve process that had been successful in every engine they've done

No one ever said a 4.060" bore was a big bore. The reason for the 6.0L block use is because of the cost, same reason the stock crank was kept and offset. The new GM 6.0L block and complete machining is well under $1000.

The stepped sleeve process is nothing new. I have one of my own 5.7L blocks waiting to be resleeved at our machine shop - I just don't know what sleeves I want to use.

We will definately offer the package with a aluminum block. We use MTI for all of our resleeved blocks We've been discussing the use of resleeved blocks & will probably test one out before long I'm game to build another one, but I'm kind of tired of the c5 being apart all the time. Don't worry though the next one will have a HUGE bore

We were planning on having it Dyno'd on Friday, but at about 3am Friday morning the clutch started slipping. Probably be about 2 weeks until we get the clutch fixed and find time to take it somewhere before the SBSO.
