Default UUC Shifter Bushings= Waste

Got around to installing the UUC shifter bushings today. I installed the B&M shifter a couple weeks ago. Lets just say the install ticked me off because the plate would not slide over the edge of the new bushings. After 30 minutes i finally got it, got it all bolted back together to fins out that they do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Same amount of play in the shifter while in gear, no difference in gear changes. Granted it was only 35 shipped, its still a waste. Unless your stockers are broke in half or missing, dont waste your time.

The stock ones have to be pretty messed up for them to make a difference. I only swapped mine out during the shifter install because I was already there and they will not deteriorate like the stock rubber will.

Weird, mine were a cakewalk to install, put a little grease on the bushings and they pop right in. They also made a huge difference, my stock bushings were trashed at 55k. I guess if you had good stock bushings it wouldn't make much of a difference.

the b&m is so much of an improvement i can see how the bushings may not make much of a difference...i did both at the same time.

when i tighened down the 2 bolts all the way on the plate it was a bit crisper feeling.

Mine were a pain to get on also. My stockers were not bad but I figured since I was in there, might as well do them too as they're prone to fail after a while.

Yea i guess like i said unless yours are in extremely bad shape the bushings dont do anything, mine had almost 50k on them and besides being dusty were in great shape. I know its not a lot of money but its money that wasnt well spent IMO. Plus if the stockers do fail, it takes all of 5 minutes to take them out. I still get a 1/2 inch of play while in gear with a b&m and Bushings.

I tried using vaseline to lube them up and still no go, so i wound up sanding the UUC's little lip at the end off and it took about 2 minutes after i did that. I dont really see how that lip would affect it, the plate is bolted in palce and cannot move anyways.

Mine made a huge differance, best 35 $ i spent.

But the CTS-V shifter still sucks compared to every other sports sedan Ive ever driven.

We put a short throw in mine last night and its pretty tight and notchy even with the stock bushings...

Trying to decide if its worth the money to go UUC or not...

my stockers were toast after 50k miles.. replaced them when i did the Katech shifter. Pain in the *** to install, but will be worth it in the long run as they wont become a piece of **** like the stock rubbers.

Mine didnt look great when we pulled em out. Car has 100k on it. I think it might feel tighter though with the worn bushings if that makes sense.

Mine doesnt have as much slack as i expected it would...

The bushings are supposed to be for side/side play right? fore/aft my shifter is nice and tight, but at least an inch of play left/right with the stock rubber...I'm willing to try anything, didn't know they were only 35$

My stock shifter was super sloppy. The short throw we installed though seemed to take away most of that slack by itself. Mine has a tight and positive notchy feel but i like it.

Might try the bushings later but for now, i think im fine with the stock bushings.

Id really appreciate your guys input!

i used the creative steel, (ie same thing) made a big difference on my car when replaced at 25k seems like the stock ones get messed up easily, plus while you are down there why not make it good for a long time

I replaced my shifter bushings at 95k. The service history says the shift control lever was replaced at 48k. I felt a large improvement with the new bushings from CS. They also have a beveled edge for easy install.

Sounds like your shifter is about like my brother's was (perhaps even worse). His bushings were toast, and replacing them made it all better.

Sounds like Creative Steel is a good option, or Luke @ Lindsay Cadillac may still carry the UUC bushings.

I love the title of this thread.

The "shifter bushings" everyone talks about are the two on either side of the shifter linkages, not really connected to the shifter stick in any way. The only replacement for the bushing at the very bottom of the shifter stick is actually a bearing, sold with most aftermarket shifters. I don't know anyone who sells the bearing outright.
