1957 Chevy Bel Aire to LSX Swap ANYONE????
I know the 55-57 Chevy is a very sought after collectors car and not typically a good platform for a swap, but we are not looking for resale on this car. My father has a fully restored 57 and the 350 well just dont cut it. HAHA I want to tackle a 5.3 or 6.0 swap now that he is retired. I can get 5.3's all day cheap but my Truck has the 6.0L and I love it. Not looking to do a LS1/6 conversion as price may get out of hand once we get to suspension, etc... Just looking for a nice swap. Anyone have any info on such a swap?

Jason and I just got done swapping one from a 2001 Ls1 T56 into his fathers old 55 Belair. It has a set of F-body headers, it has a old style Trans Am front sub frame tho. Other than that it went in really nice. It is something whe you see the OBD2 port under the dash like on modern cars. The PCM is mounted on top of the steering column in inside. The only real issue that we ran into in this was with the Griffen radiator it was hard to get the top hose to clear the water pump pulley. Just find a schematic and de pin the computer so you dont have a lot of wire everywhere.

Teddy, i'm in the middle of putting an 8.1L motor from an 01 3500 in a 55 right now. The motor looks like a monster in the car, it has regular big block fender-well headers since the new big blocks use the same exhaust ports as early ones. It hasn't been easy getting it in so far, 2 feet were removed from the firewall and then re fabricated to allow the motor to be moved back, the front cross member was cut and had two inches removed height wise, but the motor is in now and cylinder 1 spark plug is in line with the spindle. Having swapped 2 LS motors and this 496 into old cars i have a few pieces of advice. Get a painless harness, its much easier than reworking a stock one, have lots of patients, and take your time. But once your done and you take it for a drive, its beautiful.
