Can someone tell me how to tell if I bought a real or fake SS? It's a 1998 and has the gm functional hood and SS spoiler. It has cloth seats witch I think SS came with leather. Somebody please help!! Is ther a website or something that can help?

I would go to SLP's web site and try to get a build number from them using your VIN if your car is an SS it will they will give you a build #, if not its fake. PS. Go to build numbers in their forums section.

Oh yeah check your door a real ss should have an SLP sticker saying when it was made, unless the car was painted or the sticker came off.

For some reason I can get on SLP's website(www.splonline.com). Any other suggestions? I didnt see a stiker on my door. Are the SS's supposed to have a SS badge on the dash? Mine dosnt have on

Fake or not, an SS is basically just the spoiler, hood, and badges. Suspension too of course...
You may have good reason to be pissed though.

It has 18,000 miles and he spent about $9000 worth of mods mostly to the suspension. I has everything from subframe connectors, hotchkis springs lower control arms and strut tower brace, koni shocks and struts, Granetteli MAF sensor, underdrive pulleys, Suspenton Techniquies front and rear sway bars, Random Tech adjustable pand hard bar, MTI ram air box, Custom Dana aluminum drive shaft, Hooker Powder coated headers, borla cat back,17x11 ZR-1 rims in the rear, Shift kit,PCM recal, i think I still got a good deal if it isnt a SS, but thats still messed up if it isnt. All for 17,200

If you have problems, e-mail David Hamburger at hoodscoop@hoodscoop.com . Also not all SS's have an SS plaque, it is an SLP option.

Yep, like said above, get your build number. I dont have the sticker in my door jam from SLP, but i checked with their webpage, and i have SS number 702 in 99... so i know i have an SS. I just dont have any options.. however, i do have leather (which is a factory option)... and i bought and put in the SS plaque

That happen to me to. I bough my 2001 SS off of ebay and once it got delivered it had cloth seats(i don't think i was paying much attention to the auction)I started to think that maybe it was fake. So i called SLP and YES! they gave me my build number. Just call them and make sure once and for all. ALthough i don't have any SLP stickers on the side of the door.Do all SS supossed to have them?

Everytime I try to go to SLPONLINE it tells me connection refused. Can any of you get on the website?

Look on the drivers door. There is a sticker with the option codes, look for WU8, this is the code for the SS option. Also on the passenger side door the will be a SLP stricker IF THERE WAS ANY Y2Y OPTIONS INSTALLED BY SLP. The SS dash plaque was a option, Also leather is a option.

And like has been said you could get cloth seats in an SS. I know because that's the way I ordered my SS. Anything that was an option in a Z28 was an option in an SS. I don't know of anything that was not available.

First LS1 car I ever drove was a brand new stripped 99 SS with cloth seats, I saw at City Chevrolet in Charlotte. Some SS have cloth seats.

Check for the SLP stickers and their site like the others said to know for sure.

If it's a fake SS, explore your legal options.

You think you got a deal....lol. I bought a 2001 Camaro Z-28 6-speed with 20,000 miles on it from a friend that was getting tired of the payment. I got it for payoff 14,5 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> Most of these miles where highway miles too. So I think I got a pretty good deal.

Look on the drivers door at the RPO sticker (sticker with alot of letters and numbers) and look for the code WU8.

Thats the code for the SS. You wont have the SLP sticker if you didnt alter the original SS package.

WU8 is all you need to know.
I ordered my SS with cloth and no Ts, just the options that were required for the SS packages.
Probablly one of the cheapest 2002 SS sold, after my GM discount, rebates, GM card earnings, just over $21,000 out the door for a brand new SS.
