Who manufactures the stock ring & pinion for my 02 hawk? Is it AAM?
I got an 02 hawk (m6) and I am looking to put my rear end back to stock. I need to purchase a new set of gears, I called my local GM dealer and they told me $899.00 just for the ring & pinion. I was Blown away by the price. I called a second dealer and they told me $1100.00....WOW...no way in hell I'm paying that.
So my question is does anyone know who manufactures the OEM gears for my 02 hawk so I can get it from somewhere other than GM? I thought it was AAM (American Axle Manufacturing) but I want to double check before I make any purchases.
Any help is greatly appreciated....

AAM does supply the actually gear sets to GM. You can find AAM gears for around $200, alot of aftermarket companys use AAM gears in there box because they are offered pretty cheap to the aftermarket.

You have to make sure and compare apples to apples. I believe that the GM gear sets are six cut gears, and most aftermarket gears are four cut gears. The 10 bolt is known to whine a little, and with four cut gears it will be even louder!
