Default How much HP do you loose installing CATS? (i've searched)

I just installed 2 3" cats on my true dual set-up to be legal, make the car smell alot less and be quiter for my kids (and wife). I was courious if anyone has knowledge as to how much HP you actaully loose. The car has a cam similar to the MS3, heads, FAST 90, etc. THANKS! Car makes 441RWHP with the old ORY setup BTW...

Im going to be ditching my cats off my kooks in the next week or two.

From what ive noticed with a healthy cam you loose 5-10 with cats. but I guess it depends on the cats aswell.

How bad was the smell? or are you going catted mostly because of noise ??

The smell was just normal "lawnmower" smelling exhaust. I have a 2 yr old thats in the car with me rather often and another child on the way, so i wanted it to be more family friendly. The sound is for sure a bit deeper with them, and the exhaust smells like a new car would, that goofy "cat" smell. I used normal ceramic stainless steel cats, 400 holes per inch. I have no CFM data on them.

Two 3" high flow cats would hardly restrict that motor, most likely 5hp or less. Plus, like you said, you get a better sounding exhaust tone and get to be "legal".

At 200 cells on a 1000 HP chevy motor we lost 10 HP. On a 500 HP LS motor we lost nothing. Cats are not what they used to be. They came a long way from the old ones. I use them on all my builds and dont run any mufflers. You loose more HP with mufflers than with cats.

You may loose a couple of horses up top, but adding cats should give you a little more low RPM grunt again, though. Helps the TQ #'s a little, IIRC. When I took my cats off it felt like I lost a hair bit of low end.
