Unhappy Install problems Koni 3/4 front shock

Hey guys, I just installed the adjustable Koni front shocks. The rear was installed pretty quickly with the heater hose mod. I am using SLP camaro ss springs ( got from my friend) in the front. I also used the lower perch to get my ride about an 1/2 inch lower in the front. When i finished with the install for front shocks and removed the jack, the car was now sitting literally 5 inches above stock height. It looks absolutly hidious, cant even drive it. I am trying to reason everything out and I pretty sure that I installed everything correctly. I am not sure if my buddy gave to the wrong springs or what happened or could it be the wrong shocks??? Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!

Are the SLP Camaro springs for an LT1 maybe?

Sounds like the springs are not oriented in the spring pocket correctly

The springs were supposed to be for an LS1. I am pretty sure its oriented correctly, i will check again. I just came back from my buddy's house, so we will open it back up tomorrow. The drivers and passengers side are lifted the same amount. Would there be anything else that would cause this big of a discrepency? May be I should put the stock springs back on??

The only thing that comes to mind is that maybe you installed the cup upside down on the shock?

The cup is positioned properly, I wish it was upside down to make this fix alittle easier.

Hey guys, I just put my stock shocks on. The ride height is back to normal. The only new part i got were the strut mounts and the springs. When i compare the height of the the whole strut mount, spring and shock assembly; the konis assembly are bout an inch higher then the stock assembly. we had some trouble getting the koni bolts within chassie due to the height discrepancy . The spring seem to be the same height as the stocks The springs seem to be in proper position and the whole setup looks good. Could it be that i got the wrong shocks?

No. Still sounds like the springs not positioned correctly. Either upper or lower mount or isolater. Without pictures of bad installation hard to know.

I agree ... while possible you got the wrong shocks, the liklihood is remote.

In this case ... call Sam!

Hey guys, here are the pictures. On the upper strut mount there is a rubber extension of the mount in between the first and second spring coil which was not on the stock.

Yep. Unless they were installed wrong. Which don't look like it. Follow mitchntx advice. You may got a fluke set of shocks.

Where to begin?????

The wrong shocks won't fit the car. F-body fronts are very specific.

When you jack a car up, put new shocks and springs on it and let it back down it will sit very high until the suspension settles in. You have new springs, new shocks, new bushings, new mounts, new rubber seals, etc.

The car sits are the height you expect on stock springs. Springs set the height of the car unless the spring perch moves up or down. And the spring perch on a Koni is set the same as stock, with an alternate lowering setting. They are not higher than stock.

Thanks Sam. Should i try to put the stock springs and stock strut mount on there to see what happens. If it does have to settle down it has about 3.5 inches to go. I checked all the threads on this site, nobody has had a problem with it being this high. I would understand if it would have been 1 inch higher then stock but its more then 3.5 inches. I look like a thug on airbags. I was soo looking forward to have these babies in. When i rode the car after it felt good except for the hieght.

On picture 054, I think the mount is supposed to be flush on the washer - looks like too much space - need to compress spring some more.

^^^
I'm going to agree. That washer looks out of place. I am 99% sure the washer was sitting flush against the upper mount when I did my install. Something is definitely not right there.

good eye, i bet that has alot to do with your problem... what kind of strut mounts are those??... they don't look like factory gm mounts and it appears that there is something molded to the bottom of those mounts that is preventing the flat washer from mounting flush against the bottom of the mount... i would try putting your factory mounts on there and compress the spring more until you get the top nut completely tightened... when done correctly, the bottom of the strut mount should be resting on that flat washer

there is no significant functional difference between ls1 and lt1 springs. The spring rate is a little different but there's nothing that would prevent you from using it.
