Moving to Tampa
well, i have had enough of "ole rocky top" and will be moving to Tampa soon. the jobs for me have all but dried up around here and i am going to take this chance to move somewhere i love. i am selling my '65 LeMans to fund the trip and i am looking to get into the insurance adjusting biz. i have already signed up on f-bodyinc's web site and i hope to meet alot more people when i make the move. i don't know where i will end up, most likely somewhere between spring hill and sarasota.
i was kinda looking for some local insight to the area. how are the pubs, where is the best eats. how and where the best fishing is. whats there to do? i love fishing, i love to have a beer. cruising and racing are big things for me as well. so, guys, brag on your town a little. or if it is that bad, tell me why. i am excited about the move but i just don't know exactly what to expect. thanks to all who indulge me.

Greeting from an East TN guy!
I've never lived in Tampa, but have been several times. both my brother and sister went to USF in Tampa.
As for places to go, the old place was 'Ybor City'. I've heard it's changed some, but it's a nice downtown area with shops and restaurants, but on weekend nights they closed off the streets to cars and it was nothing but bars and clusb for over a mile long! I had TWO great spring break trips to Ybor City.
As for fishing, I'm not sure where to go. Clearwater is not far away if you like the beach. I remember going to a club there called 'Stormins' and had WAY too much fun there.
I think east of the city there is a Hard Rock casino and Hotel.
Big car scene in that area.....videos all over YouTube.
Good luck on the move! More expensive to live, but overall, you will probably like it.

I live in Spring Hill. We have a huge car show every Thursday on SR 50. You've got Sunshine for 1/8th mile action, and a hour, hour and a half south is Bradenton for the 1/4. I know you can still get some street runs in somewhere around Tampa, its mostly dead up this way though. The big thing in Tampa used to be the bridges, but they really cracked down on those not all that long ago.

If you like to fish then you'll love it. The good spots will cost gas money & beer though.
It's got a little bit of something for everybody you've just got to know where to look for it. Plus it doesn't snow.

yes, i dig some texas hold-em. as far as what i am used to nightlife wise? well, i would like to hang out at a pub, that isn't in chilis or o'charlies, and where i am not the youngest by 20 yrs (i am 31 btw). there is no nightlife here. just a few dives and a redneck "club". i really miss some good "real" seafood too. none of that in these mountains. oh, whats the deal about the new bill that was passed?

My buddy has a magazine devoted to night life in Tampa. If it's hot and happening John is covering it. His magazine covers dozens of bikini contests in the Tampa/St Pete area. John covers a lot of high end events like the Festival of Speed and the Supercar Race. Read his magazine and you will learn where the hot spots are.

How long can you do the bikini contests and the clubs before you look like the 30 something loser? I'm for the good times but, you gotta gear it differently once you get older. Long as the money is bringing you to Tampa, then hell yes! Not knocking Tampa by any means, I freaking love it! Y'bor? All I can say is, bring a gun, it's not what it used to be.

Tampa has something for everyone. Last night the band Alice-n-chains and with some connections back door passes.
As far as needing a gun in Ybor now that was funny. Then considering some of the psycho horny bitches I have met there....lol...

Im a bass fisherman. That's my love. I tournament fish year round here. What kind of fishing do you like to do? I can tell you fishing here is much different than the mountain lakes. Tampa's a good city if your a "city" kind of guy. Im a bit too country and never really cared for Tampa. I live in north Lakeland. Much more relaxed up here.

i am a country boy as well but i like to leave within reach of a decent city. i mainly fish for bass around here. i don't like the lakes because the TVA will almost drain them during the winter months, then they raise the level back to normal around this time of year which plays havoc on the bass habitat. the only time i ever see good veggitation is if i fish the farm ponds. its like shooting fish in a barrel then. i do want to fish the salt water too. i fell in love with the striper fishing when i was stationed in va beach. and have always dreamed of fishing the mangroves. oh, and the peacocks in the everglades where unreal! one reason i want to move there is because i feel florida is the best bass fisherie in the nation, has the best coastal fishing in the nation and the only "amazon" like fishing as well. it's very diverse! kinda like my fishing.
