Pacesetter Headers/Lost power
i installed my headers but im basically running my exhaust straight from the headers with some 2foot extended pipe from each side.
Is this causing my car to feel slow by not having the pipes merge together?
Does back pressure really make that much of a difference?
The custom ypipe will be installed this Tuesday along with the rest of the exhaust.

my car felt like a v6 before I got the exhaust installed and just ran straight pacesetters with 18" straight pipes. New exhaust=whole new world. Get some backpressure on it and you'll feel your power gains.

hey let me know how that works out. my brother just bought an 01 z28 with pacesetters and true duals, it seems slow. we were thinking backpressure is a big factor, since theres no H or X pipe and it's 3 inches all the way back. he's gonna have a mechanic look at it in a few days but sounds like the same problem you have maybe..

I worked with a kid who had LTs with cats right in the end of the collectors. with no h or x pipe. he never complained about power loss or anything. The cats must have created some back pressure unlike the straight pipes.

It has been proven by dyno evidence time and time again that LT will pick up a solid 20-25rwhp over stock exhaust manifolds. Just look at the stock manifolds, they are extremely restrictive. Get a proper x or y pipe on that car and you will definately notice the pickup. IMO, shorties or mid tubes are a good way to waste your money.

ummm yea backpressure is a big deal dude.. you will need enough to close the valves properly.. FWIW I have headers ory cutout and magnaflow catback. When I'm doing 140mph or so the car seems to pull slower with the cutout OPEN. When it is closed it is a smoother gradual pull

Well thanks for the response guys. I had a custom y pipe made and bolted on a magnflow exhaust. The car also has a manual cut out.
The car runs a hell of alot better. My car felt like **** without the rest of the exhaust. Took it to the track but my 1/4 mile time just got worse/slower.
Maybe I'm in need of a tune to make up for a different a/f ratio.
I think the car is faster but it might just be the sound it makes since it's louder.
I'll update after I get a frost tune.
And by the way my car does seem to pull better with the cutout closed as opose to open.
