Default just bought 99z28 rear end noise?

basically lil bit of a faint kinda grinding low tone and also kinda sounds like a wheel bearing noise coming from the rear should i be worried the cars in great shape with 108k on it its got the 2.92 rear end auto trans i bought it for $5200.00 today but im hoping it'll last long enough so i can raise the funds for a 12 bolt. any thoughts?

It might be a bearing, most likely the pinion bearing.

On mine it was a pinion bearing making a slight groaning noise.

I had a local rearend shop called " Hoopers " put it new all bearings, seals and a crush sleeve for a little over $200 total.

Yes that was it ... everything else was perfect, I have the Torson posi.

Mine only had 75K on it at the time. The first owner before me never changed the rearend oil, that's why I figured the pinion bearing went bad.

I now have about 84K and the work was done in October 2007.

They will be able to do all the work with the rearend still on the chassis so it's should be fairly easy for a rearend shop.

A cheap fix is not a bad thing. The 12 bolt I need with all the goodies is close to 3 grand shipped, so I figured I'll save the money for now and do a few home repairs. lol

yea 12 bolt is pricey but i hear its worth it ive got a few people lookin out for 1 for me hopin to get it from a totaled car or even a decent 10 bolt with a better gear ratio cause the z28 i bought has 2.73 gears kind of odd for a z28 i hear, but i want somethin like a 3.23 or 3.42 ratio axle

You might be happier with 3.23 or 3.42.

On my M6 I just stayed with the stock 3.42 gear ratio.

When I get the 12 bolt. I will order it with a 3.42 as well.

Aside from the noise, have you checked for leaks? Those are usually present with bad bearings.
