Default 1980 Volvo 242 LQ4/T56

I bought a 242 chassis. It's rust free minus a small section. Underside it spotless.. so let the madness begin.

Plans are:
Boosted LQ4 (Z06 cam + springs)
T-56
8.8 IRS

Everything revolves around those 3 things.

+T and 8.8 will wait til this winter/next season

I might throw a Volvo locker rear end in it for now..
(Dana 30 w/ G80 locker) ~$150

ok, now for the pictures.

Car:

where the 295's will fit.

Stock 2.1L ~120bhp

This came out of my radiator

2002 LQ4 ~320bhp

COMPLETE harness

Day 1

Do not want

Didn't get as much done as I wanted, but not bad for about 3-4 hours worth of work.

It's nearly ready to pull. Just need to unbolt the engine mounts and exhaust, drop the drive shaft and yank.

Fast forward to now..

**I have a couple questions..
Which manifolds yield the most clearance?

I'm running into a little interference with the steering shaft.

Also need the following parts: (will update as I need more)
Ls1 style intake manifold and fuel rail
LQ4 Maf

I have a 77 244 with a LT1/T56 and an 8.8 from an Exploder. It's a fun ride and makes for a good sleeper!

i'm doing a ls1 into a 960 wagon now.
you probably don't have a "little" clearance issue with the steering you have a big issue if the car lays out like the 740/960.

i found gto monifolds to be the best fit but no where near bolt in. I was going to shave the manifolds at an angle to pull them in tighter to the block, but got some "free" headers which I'm cutting up and bending to try to fit. I haven't touched the car for almost 6 weeks because other things come first.

my motor is in, mounts are made, cross memeber and mount are done, I just hung on the exhaust and haven't gotten back to it.

Good luck, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions about what i've done.

the exhaust manifolds that i have found to have the most clearance are the c6 manifolds. looks good so far. make sure you take some good pics of how you mount the engine and trans. i have a 1980 240gt with the black interior and the orange and grey stripes. pm about any parts that you have left over from the original 2.1l

here's my thread on the motor mounts I made...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...-work-art.html

The theory is good, next time, if there ever is one, I probably wouldn't make them out of aluminum.

I used the GTO mounts just drilled thru the top of the cross member for them.
I used the H3 pan, which let me set the motor very low in the body and have about 3/4 hood clearance.

may i ask what you did for the slave cylinder line?
I used a Wilwood master and made my own braided -3 line using a banjo fitting on the master side and a Russel adapter (forgot the part number, it uses an o-ring to seal and a roll pin to keep it in place) to the stock slave. Works great.

Here are some pictures:

Wow. good stuff. I'm currently doing the same in my 1980 242 due to an accident, which took it from all original to a mutt.

I like this swap.... one of the most original swaps next to the Civette. I remember my mom used to have one of these all the way up until 2002 when it was finally totaled... thank God... I HATED that car.... now I want to build one...

Haven't updated this in awhile. Car is getting fitted with cage, then paint while my trans is getting beefed up.

Thinking about switching to this turbo.. just because it says Volvo
