3.4 to lt1 swap
is there anybody that has done this particular swap in the early 4th gens? share your experiences and mods and if there are any links on ls1tech about these swaps please post them here. it seems like its going to be a real pain in the ***. i bought a lt1 for $100 out of a caprice but has nothing on it. basically its a short block with the intake and heads so i will need everything in the front assembly, harness, ecm, ignition etc and i am leaning towards making it a 383 stroker. i also have a 4l60e sitting around to mate it with. any help would be great!

check that engine block on the water jacket area(motor mount area) for the numbers "327" if it does not say "327" its not an Lt1 ,also are the heads alum or steel?,To start with you will need a lt1 k-member (engine cradle) I have a stock one notched for LLP headers for sale (p.m. me for details)...you will need to rework the fuel system ,there may be some issues to iron out regarding your gauge cluster, suspension, Obviously check that motor out before just drop'n it in.Good Luck!

Goodluck. It really wasn't that hard. I just took my time and did what I wanted before I put it into the car. I also started with a donor car which saved a LOT of work.
The fuel system doesn't need to be reworked at all, just put in a Walbro 255 pump and roll on your day. Suspension is the same, the 3.4 with it's iron heads/block weigh roughly the same as a LT1 with iron block/aluminum heads. I wouldn't worry about that. Your issue is going to be the wiring harness, which is basically a plug and play, you just have to find a keyed source to run to the pump. I solved that problem later by using the HotWire kit.

i have most of that thought over. the main thing i am worried about is ignition. i hate electrical. ive thought about getting a z28 dash, upgraded opti and ignition coil, harness, computer, and all that ****. i have none of it and dont exactly have a fat wallet to spend! ill probably get a harness and ecu out of a local f-body graveyard but one thing that popped in my mind today is if the fuse and relay block will be connected to the harness??

you don't need a Z28 dash. All you need to do is have the tuner delete the vats and tune your car for the year computer you have. You'll obviously have to get a new computer to control the new motor. For instance, I'm running a 97 computer in my 95 bird, it's just because I bought a 97 donor car. It doesn't really matter unless your car is a 93...even then there are ways to work around it.

Im nearing the end of my 3.4 to lt1 swap now. I bought a donor trans am to do the swap. The ta was a 93 and my camaro is a 95. I dropped the complete subframe and engine out of the ta. I bought a new wiring harness from GM. I work at a chevy dealership so i know how they work. If you would get a harness from GM, dont give the parts guy a vin#. Tell him its for a 94 z28 camaro with LT1 M30 and C41 rpo codes. The harnesses are discontinued but they get them from the vintage parts division. I get a big discount but list price should be around 300 or 350ish. The harness ties in at three spots near the the blower motor and the rest is just the engine sensors and injectors etc..

I am using my old 3.4L ac delete pulley and im putting in a z28 radiator but im currently using my 3.4L fan and shroud. Some people say to swap to the dual fans and others say the single large fan is fine. Im going to try the single fan and if it isnt good enough ill put in the dual fans, i just didnt want to wire them up. I did get a dual fan set up off a 3800 f-body. This car isnt done yet but ill let you know how everything works when i get the thing going. As far as a PCM im not too sure. I found the swap a hell of a lot easier to do with a complete donor car. The 3.4s and the lt1 do share a lot of parts but not everything there is a lot of little things that have to be swapped. As far the fuel system the only difference is the pump EVERYTHING else is the same. The heater hoses that run from the heater core to the radiator are different. The tensioner and the ac compressor are the same. The only thing you have to do to the cluster is change the capacitor for the tach or it will be way off. The 110 speedo doesnt matter. The throttle cables are different. You will need a power steering reservoir if you plan on using it. The front brake lines are different. Thats all i can think of for now.

The engine wiring harness part number is 12145177 and its for a 95 auto z28 with rpo codes LT1 M30 and C41. The 94 harness is discountinued but you can get the 12145177 harness from vintage parts through a gm dealer. The PCM part number is 88961150 and it came in 94-95 B, F, and D-bodies
