Default Camaro 78 -> "70", LS3 + T56, Drifting & track car

I did this project during this spring, it was ex track racecar, bought it without engine & tranny.

LS3 engine did sit IMO nicely in place with original LS3 vette oilpan, sits low and far back, nearly mid engined Gearbox tunnel had to be remanufactured. 4gen pacesetter exhaust manifolds did fit rather easy in place, little bending ang cutting but couple hours of labour. I used Clutchmasters FX500 cluth and their flywheel in this and after few tests it feels good, and holds up good alltough abuse is bad.

Engine is stock besides lunati voodoo cam (65602) and their dual spring set, with Tatech ecu it gave 475whp / 660nm torque.

I bought fibreglass front end from vfn fiberglass, changed rearpanel to car and made rearwindom frames my self, no it looks bit older. STill missingg front lip and decent wheels

Car weights 1305kg = 2870lb with full tank and w/o driver. Weight ratio is 50.5 / 49.5% with driver. Fiberglass front end, hood, bumbers, doors, trunklid, lexan windows except front screen.

Itīs has been so far only in Drift use, and i still havenīt quite got used to it. But thought that it evolute pretty good car in that sport eventually. Also planning to drive regular track races with it later this year when drift season is over, need just little suspesion changes then.

This is how it was when i bought the car.

Leaf springs with iron bushings, panhard bar added and shock absorbers changed to coilovers with 50kg/cm springs, iīm probably going to ditch leaf springs in some point and go with 4-link setup.

Ok. I have a 78 and I wondered if converting it to a 70 split front bumper was possible... now I want to make a racecar out of it! Where did you get that fiberglass front end?

Good job, looks great.

Front end came from ->

http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/

And converting rear end is basically rather easy, and if i only would have bought also rear quarters or now thinking fibeerglass ones. Now 3 races behind and both quarters have taken little hits, other repaired and other not.

Few videoclips from our season finale, i placed 7th in there and 5th at season overall standing out of 31 drivers that earned points.

Camaro wasnīt in itīs full potential yeat but for debyte season and considering that it isnīt most typical driftcar im quite satisfied for that. Need to have lots more of steering lock for next season and also little improvements for rear axle (4-link setup instead of leaf springs), and prepping the gearbox, otherwise its starting to be pretty competitive.

Last race was on wet track, not kinda my thing but what can you do...

Wow! That is awesome!

What transmission? Front suspension looks fairly stock.

How is the quality and fit of the VFN front end?

Transmission is Tremec T-56 from -98 Firebird

Front suspension:
-Some stiffer lowering springs?
-Bilstein Shocks
-Some stiffer sway bar?
-Bushings are polyurethane in lower arm and sway bar, and metal in upper arm.
-81 Z28 steering box and steering arms (spindle) are about 1.5" shorter and turned towards wheel to gain more steerin lock and eliminate ackerman.
-Wilwood superlite brake calibers with corvette 12" discs

Rear:

Rear:
-Leaf springs, some stiffer ones with iron bushings
-Rear sway bar
-Panhard bar
-S14 Nissans Coil-overs instead of shocks, with 50kg/cm springs.
-Wilwood dynalite brake calibers with corvette 12" discs

Front end quality, quite good, but it is ment for raceuse and is really thin material, i had to make some supports to it.
