Faceplated guys I have some questions.
I am really thinking about doing this since my trans is apart. This car is driven on the street. I put 1500 miles on it in the last 2 years LOL. I have done some searching and read where most if not all that have done it were fine with it's street manners. Just looking for an update from some of you guys and do you have ay regrets?? Would you swap back to the synchro setup if you could? Thanks guys.

Yeah me too. My car sees a lot more street miles than track miles though. Probably 9K a year. Sure would be nice to no longer worry about synchronizers and blocker rings though......................

Tick advised me not to get my tranny faceplated when i had them rebuild it. they said its harsh for street driving. however i plan on getting it faceplated this winter, as it seems like i could benefit from it. i also only drive the car 4-4500 miles a year.

That is because if they said it was ok to drive on the street everyone would be doing it and when stuff broke they would be at fault. Little CYA from all the big trans guys. That is why I wanted to know if someone has some good street miles on theirs yet. All the searches are from the past where they just got them installed and drove a couple miles and they were posting about their first impressions. I want to talk to those guys now to see if they still like it, anything break, would they still recommend ect.

A kid I work with has a faceplated trans in his 02 Camaro. I drove it just to try it out. It was cool but, there is no way I could stand it in a street car. It is absolutely violent on the up or down shift.

^^^Did he drive it on the street? any issues/broken parts. What did you not like about it? Need more info. I understand it is not for everyone. I drive with a spool, no front sway bar, shocks set for the strip and a big solid roller cam and all heim joint susp. Just trying to figure out where this stands as far as driveability against those.

He does drive it on the street. This is the first summer on the trans---So there are not a lot of miles on it yet. The way your car is set up---A faceplated trans may be right up your alley. It is too harsh for me---Maybe I'm getting old!!!!

I should be getting my faceplated trans parts back this week. I also upgraded to the viber shaft and liberty open up my tail housing for me. I am also getting a steel billet trans yoke from them. I will let you know how it goes when i get it back together and try it, on the street and strip.

What I hear is that it's very hard on the gears themselves and that it will require far more maintenance than a trans with syncros. I talked with a guy who has a faceplated trans in his drag car and he says that aside from the harshness he doesn't drive it much on the street due to the wear issues. He drives 18 wheelers for a living and those don't have syncros as well, but they have a much larger amount of transmission fluid to deal with it as well and are built that way OEM.
I admit it would be nice to be able to do clutchless shifts, but I don't think I could ever consider a faceplated transmission in a street car. Let me know how it turns out for you. I know that in the end streetability is one of those things that is entirely different for different people.
