HELP....LS1 X-pipe vs. H-pipe
Need help deciding..
2000 Pontiac T/A
Already purchased Pacesetter LT headers but which pipe setup do you guys recommend? Is there a difference with back pressure and/or sound? Has anyone used either setup with Pacesetter headers?
Thanks,
Jim

Yup, this has been plaguing mustang guys for quite a while. I went with the X when I used to have my mustang, although rasp doesn't bother me.

Are you definitely going with true duals? If not, the custom y (Flowmaster merge) option would certainly work well going to a nice catback. I guess I'm a bit partial as a "Y" guy.
I've tried so hard to look past the desire for true duals for a while. Every time I feel like I want to pull the trigger I realize how tough it is already with the y-pipe setup when it comes to ground clearance and I simply can't sacrafice anymore.

As far as horsepower goes, your probably not going to be able to tell a difference with either an "X" or an "H". As far as sound goes, it seems a lot of people with true duals like the sound of an "H" pipe. Plus, everyone and their mother-in-law goes with an "X" pipe set up, so you could be different and go with an "H". Either way, it's going to sound great.

Go h-pipe all the way. I have an h in my tru duals. I couldn't be happier in how it sounds my car is on stock cam and I have had several H/C LS guys comment on how good my car sounds I had to do something right.

Custom 3" true duals X pipe with moroso spiral flows vid is in the sig. This setup sounds nasty. I built it so the x fits in the center of the drop down for a umi chassis mount torque arm.

Did you feel any difference between the X and H pipe setups? From looking at dyno graphs the gains that one might have over the other seem so marginal that I can't help but call out someone who's 100% set on an X pipe "becaus it makes max power" and say they've fallen into the hype.

When I had the X, I lost low end tq, but gained it on the top end
when I had my H, my low end tq was back big time. And didn't pull as hard up top
Go with a Prochamber.. Best of both worlds.. Its an X and H lol

I'm going to try not to hijack this thread, but here is what I'm building:
That's a 3" flowmaster D port merge. It should work a lot like an H and an X, I hope. I've got more info on it in my sig link.
I'll let everyone know how it works out when I get it all fabbed up. FWIW, it's the same pipe kit that JMM98LS1 uses, only I'm using Warlock mufflers instead of 1 chamber flowmasters.
