We spent a big part of today bolting a 182 mile L99 engine on the Texas Speed Superflow 902 engine dyno! Very shortly we'll begin testing & developing complete L99 packages for you automatic VVT guys! We'll work first on camshafts for the stock DOD lifters, and then customers with upgraded lifters.

We're super pumped up to start development on the new VVT L99 camshafts, before you know it all the LS3 guys will be wanting VVT!! :) :) In fact I have a VVT harness built for my LS3 2010 Camaro!

We also recently purchased a L99 2010 SS test car so we can give you guys both engine & dyno data. I'll keep you all up to date with what's going on! Look for big HP dyno runs very shortly!!!

Thank you! I hate seeing so many L99 to LS3 conversion when the VVT setup can give so much across the entire RPM range :nod:

This is just a GM crate motor. It's not the motor out of the L99 car we just picked up. The first cars we bought were all LS3 cars. Now we are testing the L99 stuff on the engine and chassis dynos. :D

A couple of the first test cams showed up last week. We should start testing in the very near future! We have the new harness for the dyno on and finished up the remote water pump setup on the dyno. It should allow us to do cam swaps in under 20 minutes! :D

Ran into a small snag, CC ground the new cams for the "L92" VVT camshaft timing gear phaser. When I checked the ICL, it was retarded 12 crank degrees using the stock L99 VVT camshaft timing gear phaser and the new "L92" camshafts. Apparently GM changed the VVT timing gear 6 cam degrees for 2010 as compared to the '06-'09 gears and no one knew or checked up on it until I found out the difference.

Sent CC the test L99 cam gear phaser 2 weeks ago just to be sure and the new cams are on the way. I'll probably get back on the dyno mid-week with the new setups.

It's a little more tedious checking the ICL and PTV with the camshaft retarded and advanced, takes almost 2 hours for each new setup. Aligning the cam dowel is also kinda tricky since you cannot see it, but a little patience is all that is needed.

I wonder how many shops installed 2010 L99 VVT camshafts without checking the ICL?! If CC didn't know about the difference... that kinda implies no one else did.

Sounds interesting....

In the G8 world, most of the L76 (6.0L GT) guys are ripping out the DOD setup and replacing the cam with a non-DOD version. My question is the exact opposite to this trend, would it be possible to add VVT to the L76 DOD setup? If it is possible then I will hold out on getting a cam until your development work is done.

Good to know.Had a few customers do there own cam installs and all of them lacked the hp. Only ones we did got rid of the DOD completely.:D

Don, I've had good results getting rid of the DOD and VVT also, it basically is a LS3 at that point. I will be testing the first camshaft tomorrow actually, so we'll see what happens. PtoV is tight on the intake side, exhaust is generous due to the valve reliefs.

I'll probably have to do a writeup on degreeing the VVT camshafts, it is a little tricky and even then - there is a +/- 1.5 degree error range due to the floating design of the phaser system, it does lock at "0" when there is no oil pressure, but there is still a lot of slop. I built a L99 timing gear test setup so that I can advance/retard the camshaft to check PtoV at both extremes, and to check the full advance ICL and full retard ICL.
