Did the exhaust manifolds change design between 98-02?
I recently bought some OEM catalytic converters only to discover that the '02 converters were different in shape than those on my '99. So my question is, if I were to get an '02 Y-Pipe, would the '02 converters and '02 Y-Pipe bolt up to my '99 manifolds without modification?
(Basically, I just need to know if the '02 and '99 manifolds are the same design.)
Thanks

yes they did. I know 01-02 have better flowing manifolds than 98-99 but idk if they introduced the better manifold in 00 or what
And Im not positive but I thing they may bolt up. I think I bolted in a y pipe from a 01 into my 98 before i sold it I cant remember though
Bottom line is 99 is not the same as 02.

I want to thank everyone for their replies.
I am though still confused as to whether the '02 converters and '02 Y-Pipe (SLP Y-Pipe from link below) will bolt to my '99 manifolds and cat-back exhaust.
I do understand from the replies that the design has changed, but does this mean the flanges on the manifolds are different/located in a different position ('99 vs. '02)?
This is the Y-Pipe I am considering (in addition to the OEM '02 converters):
Y-Pipe, Larger Diameter 1998-02 LS1 Camaro/Firebird Replacement
SLP did tell me that the OEM converters and their Y-Pipe will work as long as the manifold flange has not changed positions.
Thanks

Yea I just checked what I did 4 years ago on the 98 and it looks like I bought 01-02 manifolds along with that year y pipe (cats) and installed them that way.
So it may be cheaper for you to just get some used 01-02 manifolds like I did. If I knew I wouldnt be needing the 01 system I took off my car I would sell it to you.
I say get some used 01-02 manifolds + the y pipe your looking at. Or just sent those cats back and do something else.
Whats the reason your changing these cats?

i think the headers on the 00+ models are angled differently than the 98-99. i remember i tried to switch the cats and y from my 98 to 00 cats and y and the 00 cat on the passenger side would not fit because it hit the floor board. the driver side is a direct match but not the passenger. you'll have to get the 00+ headers to make it work IIRC.

Make a long story short no it dosent look like your 98-99 manifolds are gonna work. They will bolt up cause the bolt paterns are the same but the passengerside 98-99 manifold is much longer that 01-02. Heres some pics....
01-02 is on the top. Look at how much longer the 98-99 is.

I am changing converters because my existing converters throw a code from time to time. I expected it to be much more simple though.
And I too worried that the manifolds maybe at different angles.
EDIT: which apparently is an issue.
Everyone thanks for the replies. If anyone maybe interested in the converters, I bought, let me know (the converters have about 500 miles on them and will include the O2 sensors, pictured). I also bought new flange gaskets (Fel Pro).
senicalj4579, Thanks again. I really appreciate the pictures.
