Default Richmond 4.10s go boom - 10 bolt carnage

I don't know if you saw my last thread or not - but yeah 10 bolt is broke.

Pulled the cover - two teeth sheared right off the ring gear. Fluid looks really good - lots of backlash from the wheels though. I think the only thing that is broken in the gear. The car has a mechanical torsen differential and that seems to be ok.

Next step is to pull the whole rear out of the car - also need to order new ring and pinion as well as a rebuild kit. Think I am going to go with new GM Gears - still in 4.10

Default Also broke 4.10 ring gear teeth

Mine did the same thing about a week ago except I broke 4 teeth off the 4.10 ring gear. I am going to try 3.73 GM gears and save up for a MWC 9".

Good Luck with yours

mine were really noisy - I am switching to GM because I have heard they are the quietest.

I thought about going with a different ratio but I have a feeling I will just be disappointed with the performance. I am just going to avoid the track until I can afford a MWC 9" for it after I graduate. Hopefully next winter.

245/40/ZR18 Dunlap Direzza Z1 Star Specs - they are sticky for a street tire but they are still a pure street tire. These are not as sticky as a drag radial (even nitto) but they are 200 treadwear. I thought it could survive that but I guess not. Best 60' I cut was 2.17 with wheel hop.

Need to add relocation brackets

Yeah those are pretty sticky for street tires. I was running nitto DR's and had scary wheel hop on the streets. Currently running Richmond 4.10's so I swapped to some harder compound kumhos. Good luck with the next setup man, I'm still dreading the day my rear lets go lol.

Well, that combo alone isn't good.. your going to break something if your wheel hopping that hard.. there is a ton of tension as your launching

They are made in India.

GM Gears are by far the best to go with to avoid any kind of gear noise as long as they are set up properly.

Wheel hop of any kind is not good on any differential and can cause damage.

4.10's in a 10 bolt will never last behind decent power. I went through 2 sets in one season cutting 1.5x 60'. The ring gear teeth are too thin.
