FAST 90mm intake opened to 96mm w/ pics!
Well I have had a FAST 90mm intake ported by Tony M. for a few years now .
Last year I ordered a 96mm TB trying to squeeze every last bit of HP I can out of my combo and improve my 1/4mi times.
I never got around to doing the work last year, but I managed to get to it today and I took some pics along the way.
I had a PTM 90mm TB mounted to it originally, the new 96mm TB is also a PTM.
Here is the FAST o-ring on my 90mm TB
and here is the FAST o-ring on the new 96mm TB
Line's up pretty nice!
Here is a frontal view, 90mm TB on top, 96mm TB is on the bottom
Ya I did the work on the car, keeps the intake from moving at all, I have two large t-shirts stuffed inside of it, and I will take the intake off the car, vacuum it out, blow it out with my air gun and hang it upside down as I remove the shirts.
Carbide bit was my weapon of choice for the removal of large quantities.
Here is what it looked like after a couple hours of major removal.
Cleaned up a bit with 80grit sandpaper to get rid of the major rough spots.
Then followed up with some time using some 320grit sandpaper to finish it off.
Here it is with the FAST o-ring reinstalled!
Just nice!! I will take a picture of it with the 96mm TB installed and the blade lifted up so you can see how well it matches the opening of the new TB.
I wasnt thinking, I put the 96mm on before doing the port work and there was obviously alot of intake material visible, but I never thought to take a picture of it for a before view.
One thing to note. I did notice a couple small spots on the intake where it was starting to look pretty thin and you can see the daylight comming through the plastic.
I will likely get some JBWeld or what have you and adhere that to the outside of the intake where those spots are to prevent them from caving in and causing a vacuum leak.

Thanks guys, I was a little concerned at first considering what this intake cost including Tony's port work, but I believe I did a good job and my new TSP 100mm MAF is on its way so I can mate this all up to my FTP 104mm lid and get a retune.

nice work, but I recently discovered something that makes me skeptical of investing this kind of effort unless it's out of shear boredom...
my uncle ordered a Pro Systems SV carb for his 540ci 800+ hp alcohol bracket car that was customized for his engine by Reyer Morrison and even that only had a 94mm throttle blade, seems to put into perspective how much overkill the newer Fasts seem to be for stock cube lsx engines running n/a or mild nitrous setups
never the less if you already have one it probably can't hurt either, and you did a good job on the work

I did the same last year and had to use some JB Weld to make the bottom stronger. I left the gasket off and used the 'right stuff' gasket in a can stuff. Seemed to seal very well. With my 100mm MAF and lid, I picked up 15 RWHP on the dyno on a hotter day, then my previous dyno.
