Tatoo shop
I'm only going to get one. And I want to get it before I get activated at the end of this year. I want it to be as perfect as possible. Where is the best place to go in Houston?

Google tat shops and visit a few. Find one your comfortable in then check out the work by the artist.
I have gone to 2 different shops and will stick with the 2nd one. First was a joke.
Also some artist are better at color and others a shading

There are a lot of good shops up here in the Dallas area, but I know that would be a drive for you.

I got mine from Hooper @ Ink Injections on FM 2920 and Rhodes Road. It's a custom design I had him draw up for me based on a pendent my dad gave me before I got deployed. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
They also have some pretty sick military theme tattoos on their walls already in case you need some ideas.
