My Iroc LS1/T56 Swap Build Thread (56k Death)
So... I just picked up an '86 Iroc Yesterday for 400. No Motor/No Trans... PERFECT!! I'm planning an LS1 or LS2/T56 Swap. This will be my build thread... I've got a LOT of work to do... started ripping it apart today. I want to put the 4th Gen interior into it, not sure if I want to put the 4th Gen dash into it... but basically it'll be a 4th gen in a 3rd Gen's body. I'm going to paint it the same blue/white combo as my SS. Not sure if I want white/blue though... Kinda want the hood with the SS Scoop but I'm still debating on it... I guess we'll figure that out later huh? Here's some pics of what I got so far...
Plans Include:
LS1 or LS2 Stroker
4th Gen Fuel Tank
Walbro Fuel Pump
FAST Intake/TB
Built T56
Monster Stg 4 Clutch
BMR Tubular K-Member
BMR Coil Over Conversion Kit w/ A-Arms
Subframe connectors
Tubular LCA's
Adjustable PHR
Adjustable TQ Arm
Eibach Prokit Springs
9" Rear w/ 4.11's
4th Gen Leather Seats
Autometer C2 Gauges
SS Style Hood
and quite a bit more that I have yet to figure out
Freshly Home
Gotta Love The Olds Cutlass Rims
The Custom Stripes W/ Airbrushing:
Interior Shots:
No Steering Wheel only 4k Miles!!! lol
Custom Headliner
Breakaway Seatbelts
Under Hood
Starting to Remove stuff under the hood
Pulling out the PCM
Back under the hood... Engine Harness Halfway out:
Passenger side
Pile of Excess Materials.... Including the Crescent Wrench I found!!
Anyone need parts??

ramair21 I had a question about removing the wiring harness from the old engine. I got it completely out until I got to the plug to the Gauge cluster on the driver's side of the engine compartment. It's on the same plug as the headlight harness... how did you get around this?? Thanks in advance

That's actually two plugs clipped together. You should be able to release those clips on the side and pull the plugs apart. Its pretty easy, just mess with it a little and you'll get them apart. The big one goes to the engine harness and the little one goes to the lights, horns, turn signals, etc.

Wow thats a heck of a project. That puppy is rough. But actually a decent swap candidate since you're gutting most of it anyway.
I see you are in CA. If you are planning on having it pass SMOG, you might have to consider the 4th gen dash. Also the 4th gen fuel tank. In short, you need those two so that the vehicles EVAP system functions as it did in the 4th gen.
Pocket might be able to correct me on that...or someone that's swapped for CA emissions. Not sure if you can just retain the 3rd gen EVAP system, but Id ont think you can. And the 4th gen EVAP wont work without the tank and the cluster to go with it.
Good luck and keep posting pics/questions! Should turn out nice for ya if you take your time and cover all your bases!

Yes I do have a bit of a project ahead of me... I was hoping the interior was a bit better... but oh well... for $400 I can't complain too much. The body is straight minus a dent or two... And it's getting painted anyways.
And yes for it to be a legal swap I need the Evap system, AIR, EGR, Cats and all the fun stuff.... BUT with me wanting to do Stroker/Cam/Heads, etc... probably not gonna happen... oh well... That's why it pays to be a Smog Tech... Or I'll just pay someone else to Smog it... Gotta love CA Emissions

Thanks.... it's a swap I've been wanting to do for the longest... and since I've done some research on it and happened to stumble upon one, I decided I may as well start now. It's going to be a slow road because I have high standards but I feel that if I'm building it, why not build it right the first time? So I'm going to go with full suspension Tubular K-Member, Control Arms, etc... I'm going to start sourcing parts soon. I may come up on a wrecked SS if I work my buddy good enough. It's Cammed, Stalled, and Sprayed with a built 4L60E. I wouldn't used the auto for this car but I will need one for my next project So it's going to be a long road but I just want it done right and to my tastes.
