Default rebuild LS1? cost?

I have a 98 t/a M6 with 130k miles.....owned it for 3yrs so far. I would like to make about 400hp to ground with my Ls1....ok....maybe alil more! I'm wondering about how much it would cost to rebuild it with a good cam and decent heads. Im not looking to super or turbo charge, or run NOS.....yet..lol Any suggestions on what I should go with for a set up?

Or, Im considering getting a crate motor!? Any suggestions on this would be great too!

I've read lots of posts, but I'd still like an opinion! I really dont see myself making a top fuel dragster, I'm building it for light autocross racing and street, but needs to be dependable to drive. I have about 3500$ to spend....I just wanna do whats best.

Items installed on car include:

LT headers, offroad Y, magnaflow
LS6 intake, ported throttle body
New MSD wires!!..lol
Freshly re built T-56
Buff driveshaft

Plus a lot of cool suspension parts!!

I'm sorry this is in canadian funds but here we go (as i just blew my #7 piston from a recent forced induction install)

1. forged internal rotating assembly $2700 CDN maybe $2200 US
2. camshaft $400-$500 US
3. bearings, ARP main bolts, gaskets $100, $300, $200
4. machining, cleaning, honing, etc $500-$1000
5. re-assembly of parts in your engine $500-$1000?

I may have missed something, but my guess is that in US funds you'll be sitting around the $4000 US mark to have it rebuilt, less if you don't need a new camshaft.

My guess is that if your engine is apart, likely might be good to start dropping in some new parts as a precaution. Not a mechanic, can't say for sure, but you'd kick yourself in the derriere if something broke or wore out that could've been replaced.

Best of luck

Im rebuilding the engine in my vette right now. I just bought rings, bearings, oil pump, head gaskets, valve springs, and timing chain and spent roughly $600. And a scotch pad ball off ebay for $10. to hone it. Thats all i'll have into it. ...besides my cam i had on the shelf here... I'll redo the heads myself, springs, valve job...etc. All depends on what you do yourself. I do have to buy head bolts yet, but thats like $35 at the parts store.

Really all you need to get is bearings ($200), rings ($90), hone ($50), oil pump ($130), gaskets ($200), lifters ($100), valve seals ($20). That's really about all you would need.

Summit.

I just got basically the OEM replacement stuff... Clevite P bearings, standard rings, Comp 918 springs, GM performance head gaskets, and a standard oil pump. I figure the stock parts held up making 700+hp in my 5.3L for 3 years and these parts in this vette engine held up fine for 160k miles, im sure those parts will be fine making 400hp. No sense in overkilling it.

Most the gaskets can be reused, I wanna say head gaskets were only $35. a pair. Oil pump was $100. Do some research.... Do you really need expensive hardened bearings for the HP your going to make? Any special rings needed? Why? Any oil pump other than stock? The higher volume of oil you flow or more pressure you make takes HP to pump. Ive had good luck with stock..... millions of people have. You can hone the cylinder with a scotch pad ball that costs $10. ...unless you have some really bad cylinders.

I also just got an LS2 chain from Yank for $40.
