I just got my ls1 in a 73 running last week.
Just curios did you have a 5.3 already?
Thats what i was going to use but after reading
almost none of the truck acceries will not fit since they sit to high. Just a thought.

The offset is different.. also some of the brackets are different in mounting configuration.. I have to different compressors and only the LS1 (for sure) will match up to the bracket. the bolt mount distance or lugs are different. not sure what is what.. but they are different.

Sorry for long delay, figured it was time for a quick update to let ya'll know how things are going here!

Picked up a bare block and crank from VesperTA (thanks!) and started dry assembly. Went junkyard hunting today for some covers, water pump, and some miscellaneous hardware that we could find. We had a set of lifters layin' around, so they are sitting in block. Also had a cam, so that's in. This is all stock stuff for now BTW. Also got a steal of a deal on a set of coils/brackets from an F-body, so the parts are starting to pile up in the garage.

Things needed at this point so we can start to actually build:
ARP Head stud set (I guess not a necessity, but would be nice if/when we have to tear back into it)
Timing Chain
Gaskets

The days to follow will be filled with cleaning and assembly, so plenty of opportunities for some pics. Thanks for all the replies and PM's, keep 'em coming!
