Default best thing, if anything, i can do to keep my tranny from failing?

I have a 02 trans am. Mainly stock expect induction and exhaust work. I'm experiencing some of the common tranny problems i've read about. slipping gears, not shifting right. This is only once in a blue moon driving on the highway but none the less. Anything besides flushing the transmission? Best fluid to use?

Use a full synthetic fluid. Flush every 30k miles. Put an external cooler on the car. Heat in the tranny will kill it quicker than anything else.

Yes, level is within normal range but it hasn't been changed in the 30,XXX i've put on it. It's getting flushed soon that's why i was asking about best fluid to use.

I was looking into external coolers but couldn't really find anything useful online. Any good websites to check out for these?

Cooler, Cooler, Cooler....

Heat is the biggest killer in a transmission, especially the 60e.

If it's slipping already, it might be on it's way out. I broke mine inside of two weeks after installing my cam, and mine had the b&m cooler on it. Good luck, but if you enjoy the pull of the ls1 and your car has 80+k on it without a cooler, it's probably already toast.

i would change the fluid once a year. get a cooler, and install a shift kit as well. thats what ive done with mine and ive had a stall in for a year now and the car still shifts like a champ.
