Newest mod done - car audio - is DONE!!
Since I hang out here the most AND how the system looked was important I posted here.. later I will move it to the car stereo forum
Well my car spent two days at the stereo shop getting worked on.. the guy really took their time and did an install worthy of my picky personality
I wanted something clean, loud and stealthy, here is what I got:
Alpine CDA-7995 head unit, MP3, CD and XM radio (ready if I ever want).. sorry for the cruddy pic but it was late the flash washed it out.. looks very nice:

Next was Eclipse 6.5" components in the door, they also covered all my speaker grills in fabric (Note: Boston Midbass speakers were mounted in the sail panels):

A 10" Kicker Comp VR woffer was install in a custom JL-type box.. sounds great! :

With the custom cover on you can hardly tell there is a speaker in there:

I didn't want to see tons of crud in the car.. I didnt want to loose storage space and I wanted it hidden so here is where they monted the Eclipse 5channel amp (custom board for mounting).. you can also see where they mounted the Eclipse crossovers, the best part it that there is still plenty of room for a Nitrous bottle

All speaker/amp/power cables were replaced with Monster cable and we ran the amp power inside the fenderwell with the rest of my wires for a very clean install.. except for the extra fitting on my battery you would never know I even had an amp.. Oh, I got the PAC adaptor so I can use my steering wheel controls..
Now I realize how bad the factory Monsoon sounds..

When the monsoon is compared to other factory systems, it blows em away.

agreed. But i do think his new system rocks ! Its nice to see someone with just 1 subwoofer. Because really, thats all u need. If u go bigger than ur just doing it so other people will hear you, IMO.

My point was that now that I hear the new system the Monsoon seems to sound worse.. make sense??
Yea, one 10" (or one 12") is plenty.. i cant see why you would need more unless your in audio competitions or just like to show off.. Plus I couldnt get myself to add the weight or suck up all my storage with a big speaker box or amp rack ..

Did the convertibles come with a different monsoon setup. Since day one, mine hasnt sounded very good. I dont try cranking up the bass or anything but anything even remotely loud and it sounds exactly like steve put it " muddy"

The Monsoon sucks, but you don't truly realize just how much until you replace it. Nice setup Steve!

Re: Newest mod done - car audio - is DONE!!
Steve, I know 1 10" or 12" is enough, but I would like to show off in competitions. Do you recommend removing my back seats and putting say...3 12" there in a custom made enclosure, I know everyone uses the trunk area, but I don't want to take up t-top room. I'm willing to remove the back seats for this purpose and mount them there and put the amp on the t-top shelf. Would it sound better in the trunk or where the back seats are???
Steve or anyone plzzzzzzz reply

I think the Monsoon system is one of the best "factory" speakers out there besides the BOSE speakers that are installed in most of the luxury cars...
But yea, I will replace it after I blow a few speakers...

Titan: Belive it or not.. Al & Eds autosound at the Ontario mills mall. They did my neighbors show trucks (one on display there) and their install guy is one of the tops in the country. You should see the $12,000 system they were putting in a SUV (motorized amp rack, etc).. They did not put one scratch on the car and really took car of the SS while it was there, Its rare them I am overwelmed by good service somewhere but this was it
Thanks for the comments.. Oh, and for the one guy. If I was going to do 2 or three speakers and didnt want to loose storage then in the back seat is where they would go.. but trust me that this thing is plenty loud.. and CLEAN

do they have a website?
or you have any pics of the truck?
btw that is a clean install, i like the way it was hidden, very smooth.

It looks nice. You might want to consider Carbon Fiber for the area around the H/U, that would look nice.
What happened with your rims? What did you decide?

Great sytem man
In response to the one sub is enough idea, go with two for awhile, have one blow out, and tell me that it is enough. I am not trying to show off, but the sound of two JL W3s is awesome.

I never post, just lurk, but since I'm a huge sound quality stereo guy I feel the need to comment
Steve, very nice setup man. So you have the Eclipse comps up front, Boston midbasses in the rear b-pillars, and the Kicker sub in the hatch? I know that source unit well, very nice piece, and that amp is very nice as well. I haven't had a chance to hear any of the speakers save the sub, but I'm sure by knowing Eclipse and Boston's reputations that you have a very nice sounding system. I'm just not a fan of the Kicker subs and would personally look towards and Elemental Designs E10K because I find them to be very power efficient and also very true to the music with a nice, warm, transparent sound that can still throw down when you so desire ( www.edesignaudio.com ), and the install looks very clean as well. I will be going with something very similar very soon, so that everything is hidden by the flap in the hatch away from prying eyes. Overall, I'll give it two thumbs up
