Default Power Window Problems

Hi all,

I have a 2000 Trans AM. I had problems with my power windows. The driver side window had stopped working, and the passenger side, would go down normally, but go up real slow. I replaced both window motors! The drivers side works perfect, and the passenger side is exactly the same! Goes down quick, normal, and goes up real slow and at times stops! Any ideas what else it can be?? since I changed the window motors, as well as the window switches.

Thank you!!

I replaced both windows motors and installed the autotrix kit to the passenger side and the passenger window now goes up and down a little faster than the driver side. The installation is pretty simple and autotrix has a tutorial on their website.

Sounds like you got a bad rebuilt motor. Very common.

Did you get the OEM design? If so, its probably a reman.

The Doorman motors are a new design and 100% new parts.

dude that is not completely true, gm still has brand new motors. they work fine no matter how old you think the design is. mine lasted over 8 years.

There is a little connection on the Body control module (behind your glove compartment) that sometimes need to be re-soldered. Had to do that for my car.

Try doing a search for BCM solder or something to that effect.

Default Little known fix for GM auto window motors

On the web I found a guy who specializes on electric windows. He said if i had the origional motors he could fix them forever. It turned out I had two remanufactured ones and that was good enough for him. He drilled and then forced a brass sheet metal screw into the copper/brass heat lead to the motor. It seems the thermostat or what ever this sliver of metal is, acts to keep the motor from overheating. His solution was to render it inoperative with the sheet metal screw. That was two years ago and it still works on both windows.

search this site and you'll find this is well known and is not a fix.
