Arrow How Much Does One Knock Retard Equal In Horsepower loss ??

Just like the title says. I'm curious to see how much horsepower I'm loosing because of my false knocks.
Thanks

Default From your signature ~ about 5 HP

IMHO there are so many variables and this is my guess: Your mods are modest but with the cam and bolt on the first restriction on HP would be the 24 lb injectors. Their duty cycle is probably near 100%^ above 5500 RPM. the Knock module would bump up your HP by 5-8 HP. I would get some 30 lb injectors and a dyno tune...at that time the tuner can tell you approx. what the K module will gain.

I'm in the process of getting new O2s because both of mine are messed up and messing up my datloging. So after I change them I'll be able to get a more accurate reading of my duty cycle.

I'm getting 7* of knock at WOT so I was just curious to see how much one degree of knock equals to how much horsepower is lost.

How do you know the knock is false and not real?

And I doubt there is a formula in determining HP loss from each degree of knock. The consensus is, it isn't good.

I wasn't sure if there was an answer for this, but id figured id ask anyway incase someone had some kind of estimate. I'm pretty sure its a false knock because it only happens at WOT and it drives normally with no knocks. I also don't have a Lt4KM yet

You need to figure out whether it's real or false first. Don't just assume.

Run some 100 octane and see if the knock goes away.

Is that the only way to test it? I guess 93 isn't cutting it anymore lol

That is definitely not sound thinking.

1 degree of knock can equal 1-4hp in your application I'd bet... but again, pretty impossible to say.

If everything else is right, the LT4 module is worth absolutely nothing.

Again, I agree. I don't have an LT4 knock module and my car pulls no timing from false knock. I just found it funny that he posted asking a specific question and his first response was far from valid (in the sense that it didn't really pertain to his question) lol. It happens often here and it amuses me

Yup. Racegas. If you knock with 100+ octane, you have false knock.

Honestly, 1 degree of knock is not worth worrying about. Knock is good. It means you are not blowing up your motor.

I ran 4-6 degrees of knock on a boosted motor at shifts. Not ideal, but not a big deal.

That was also based off of motors with 15 degrees of timing...

Try colder plugs. to battle real knock.

Try some 104+ octane booster. That is the only brand I have found to actually do anything. Don't try to run it all the time as it will coat your spark plugs and cause mis-fires. One dose won't hurt anything.

I was wondering when somebody was going to throw those out there. I'm surprised ANY of them did anything.
