You COULD get one of those CT series engines for close to 6 grand, minus shipping, minus a whole host of things to switch your EFI car to carb, minus shipping, minus labor, etc. Maybe as high as 9-12 grand to do it justice. You could stick with the LT1 and do the whole car nicely for the same or smaller bottom line.
Here's what you can do at the same power levels (around 400-410HP) with most of what you already have:
$1400.00 Shortblock rebuild
$1395.00 Advanced Induction 190cc package
$275.00 Comp off the shelf cam from AI
$320.00 Comp Pro Magnum 1.6RR
$200.00 Top end gasket set
$120.00 new OE timing set
$200.00 SVO Red tops 30#
$208.00 Racetronix fuel pump kit http://www.racetronix.com/RX-FLT1-FPKG-2.html
$80.00 ARP head bolts
=====
$4200.00 just in the engine... and I'm forgetting a few things... then you'll need...
+ headers of your choice ($400-1500.00)
+ CAI of your choice ($150.00-300.00)
+ Gears
+ Clutch (or stall if auto; if it's auto you might need to talk to the folks at Performabuilt)
How old is the Opti? Wires?
*Rear end to hold the power- S60 or Moser 9" or Midwest Fabrication 9"*
Suspension upgrades- LCAs, PHB, struts, maybe springs.
A lot to think about... if the engine runs and runs well, start small and plan your way through it. Do some supporting mods first. Don't build a big powerplant and then promptly break the driveline before you can enjoy the car.

theres lots of sponsors on the right side of the site. Please purchase from one of them because they support this site.
I would talk to your engine builder about the rebuild kit. He may want to get the parts himself, now the cam kit is fine for you to get.
