LS1 vs LS6 Intake
I have a 2002 trans am. and I am putting a 1999 corvette engine in it due to the engine blew on me with only 83,000 miles.
I have heard that the 01-02 trans am's had a ls6 intake. Is this true? and how can I tell? Does anyone have the part # for the lS1 and the LS6 intake? because if my trans am intake is a ls6 I will swap it onto the ls1 vette engine. Going to look at the vette ls1 engine today.

If its original it is the ls6. 01 and 02 ls cars got the ls6 intake and its supposed to be good for 10-15 over the ls1.
The front will be flat and it wont have egr, other than that read about it or wait for other posts because thats all ive remembered from what ive read honestly.

The 99 vette rates at 345 so that means when I change engines\and intake I could get 355-360hp? Is it a easy swap? I plan to put headers on it also. Is there anything else I should take off my trans am engine and put on the vette engine?

If it's original it's a LS6 as stated above. There are a few part numbers, mine came with PN 12561184 from the factory. Post up the PN or look in the parts number sticky. ls1howto.com has an intake swap guide for both the vette and f-body.

I think they either rated the same engine higher for the vette or maybe it has a more aggressive cam/ tune from the factory.
But the ls6 on there isnt going to hurt it and should add a little. Those numbers are also at the engine, I would expect about 330ish at the wheels maybe with the ls6 on that engine.

ls6 intake and you have a bit better flowing heads than the vette. I think it has the 853 heads and you have the 241 heads. If you do swap heads its better just to go with stock 243 that are pretty cheap now. But that would be the only thing I would swap out as far a performance. Are you keeping the Tb from the vette (electric)

I bought the engine yesterday and hope to have it installed by Monday. So I should put the heads currently on my 02 trans am LS1 onto the 99 Vette engine? Is the throttle body the same? If not which is better? Also where is the # on the block to tell me the exact car it came out of and year? I found the # on the block that is below the driver side head that code is 12550592 and from another post that means that it is a 97-up engine but that doesn't help I knew that because the ls1 came out in 97 lol. I have heard the term "derivative vin" but don't know where that is and if that will tell me what I want to know. Also the Part # on the new engine's intake is 12560688 if that helps any.

853 heads and 241 heads are basically the same. both have 66.67cc chambers, 10.1:1CR, 200cc intake port, 70cc exhaust ports, 2.00 intake valves and 1.55 exhaust valves.
Like blacknight said, its not worth it to swap heads unless your going to do 243's or better.
