Default Stock Bottom Ends?

So Ive been looking and searching around but I cant seem to find a good solid answer.

Just how much HP or punishment can the stock bottom end of a LT1 handle?

Enough for the average Heads/Cam package and maybe a little nitrous. Just dont run anything too extreme or rev it to 7K and you should be fine. If you want hp numbers usually low 400s at the wheels is around what they can take, more is pushing it

I've pushed 430 rwhp with a stock engine and a 150 shot for many years with no issues whatsoever. Max rpm on that one was about 6000.
Now with the heads/cam setup on a rebuilt stock bottom (resized rods with ARP bolts), I've been running it for almost a year and have 80-90 passes on it. This one spins to 7000 on the shifts and traps at the PCM cutoff of 7100 in good air, and so far so good. But I still think it's safer to spray it and keep the revs down, rather than spin an NA setup to get the equivalent hp. A couple of others with Impalas have sprayed their way into the 10's with stock bottom ends and those motors stayed together for years. Both of those were pushing about 475-500 rwhp with heads/cam setups plus the spray. BUT........if you make a tuning error with spark or fuel, or your fuel system is not up to the task, it's all over.

Mine is a stock shortblock that was tore down with new bearings installed. Mine is a freak for its oil pressure though. Cold startup it goes to 70lbs easy. Hot idle is 35lbs. I rev it near 7k all the time. I've taken it to the track 30 times making 5-10 passes each time, shifting at 68-6900, street encounters here and there, etc, etc. I wouldn't recommend it unless the oil pressure is good though. I'm sure there are cars that have gotten near 475rwhp on a stock bottom end. The ET record is a 10.55 in a 4th gen with a fairly light car but nothing featherlight.

I believe you mean 9.44 with a stock shortblock.

I will be pushing it to the limits when it gets back together. LE H/C/I or Ai 200cc H/C/I 175 shot but im only going to spin it to 6k-6500. So yea im going to be pushing mine to the absolute limits.

Knock on wood it's still going strong. Broke the stock 10 bolt last track outing. Waiting on the new rear end, then will run it hard to it's full potential.

I was talking about N/A stuff, I should have clarified though, you make a good point.

The N/A record is 10.55 @ 128 or 129
spray record is 9.44

Thanks guys. I just kinda wanted an idea of how much they can take. I'm planning on building a budget 355. Planning on getting forged pistons and maybe H beam connecting rods. Also planning on getting the rotating assembly balanced. But maybe the best question to be asking would be is how much can the stock crankshaft take? Ive been told that the stock cranks are better then cast steel.

Stock crank 500hp or more. Studs on the stock rods are the weak spot, have ARP studs installed even in a mild setup. Stock rods rarely break otherwise, unless other issues take place (detonation). Stock main bolts are good, but over 500hp ARP main studs are safer.

That's what my machine shop told me.
