Default M6 car with MS3 cam...lacking power?

I bought the car a few months ago and I figured the fact that it felt slow was just because it had a speed density tune (and not a very good one at that). Well, finally got the car tuned properly with a MAF tune and it does seem quicker but it still seems to be lacking. I have 285 Nitto 555's on it (the street version...not the drag radial) and it still won't spin the tires. That sounds a bit odd for a car that should be making 400RWHP.

Here's the deal:

2001 Camaro Z28 M6
64,000 miles
MS3 Cam
Comp Camps "918" springs
TSP hardened pushrods
TSP 1 7/8" LT headers (no cats)
Flowmaster catback

The O2 sensors had to be replaced when it got tuned because it was so rich on the SD tune. I don't think the rings are washed out though cause it doesn't smoke and it seems to run fine...it's just lacking power for some reason I can't figure out.

It is also throwing an intermittent TPS code and sometimes it stays at 2K and won't rev down for a few seconds (both in gear and in neutral). I replaced the TPS but it didn't fix it. Maybe the PCM? A new one had to be installed because the previous moron that tuned it decided he wanted to lock it.

No, I haven't yet. It's on the stock rear end and clutch so I'm a little hesitant about taking it to the track. I understand that's the best way to compare but I mean damn...a stock suspension car with a street tire...this thing should be able to at least spin in 1st gear.

If its still stock gear it'll probably lack down low with that big of a cam, does it feel good in the upper rpm's?

It feels "okay". It doesn't really start to impress me until after 4K RPM. But even cruising at 30 and punching it doesn't spin the tires and that's about 3,300 RPM.

Yeah you really need at least a 4.10 for that cam to shine.

I can understand the rear end gear making a difference but I still think it's a bit odd that it can't spin the tires even with the stock gear ratio. As for the clutch...yes it is stock but it's not slipping. Not that I can tell anyway...and I know what it feels like lol

If you are really concerned about being down on power, get it on a dyno and see what it puts down. Get someone with a programmer to log some data and see if you're tune is off or if you're getting knock. Judging how much power you're making by the ability to spin the tires is internet math.

Run a compression test. I have a similar setup and I could roast the tires with the stock rear from first to 3rd. Something isnt right.

Can't believe no one has said anything about this. That's your problem, those things are only rated to .600 lift. Get some Patriot Duals on there, check your plugs/wires, clean your MAF, and re-tune to see if you don't make at least 430. Also, chunk the flowmaster catback, and get a cutout.

I thought about that the comp 918's were now rated to 625 I think that is if they're the revised ones. The ms3 is probably pushing it though. I'd look into that tps problem too.

I plan to upgrade the springs but to be honest I'm not hearing any valve float. It has stock rod bolts so the rev limiter is set to 6K currently. As for the TPS problem...that one has me baffled. I'm almost certain it is a PCM issue since the car didn't do it with the last PCM installed.

You have a lot of things going against it.. you need to, seafoam the car then change the plugs, oil, fuel filter, then make sure your clutch fluid isn't black, then port your stock throttle body and make sure you have a good lid and ram-air setup, then put it on the dyno and get a good tune for street and strip use.

Things to check:
-make sure clutch isn't slipping
-make sure springs are adequate
-make sure throttle body is opening 100%

Last of all, MAKE SURE THE ASR IS OFF

That 6k Rev limiter could be the problem. that cam doesnt peak till about 6400.

I have 405 rwhp with stock gears in my 99 camaro m6. It spins the tires but not that good. It needs gears. Take it the dyno and see what it does.
