Exclamation car died on freeway and won't start back

I was going to school the other day and my car was in overdrive at 70 when it started to miss pretty bad. It missed for about 2 seconds then it shut off. It will turn over now but will not crank. When I let off the "start" on the key it tries to idle but it's really low(100-200 rpms). It won't rev up at all. Does this sound like it jumped time or the opti or something else?
The car is a 94 z28 and is an automatic with 250000 miles.

With 250k miles, anything can be bad. I'm going to assume some of the more common parts have been replaced?

Like I tell everyone who has symptoms like yours, go out and get a fuel pressure test gauge and do a FP test first. That's the easiest thing to do and can rule out the fuel system.

Thats pretty much what my car did when the opti went out, but you should check the little things first. Coil, fuel pressure ect

I just checked the fuel pressure and it is about 40 psi. Is there a way to check the coil other than seeing if it will arc with a plug?
I have replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires. I haven't done anything to the opti and I don't know if the previous owner did.

It will probably be tomorrow or saturday before I can check that because it looks like i'm going to have to take some stuff off to get to it. Would it help any to have the car scanned? A shop wants 40 to scan the car but I could buy some software like lt1edit or something and do it myself. In your opinion, what is the best thing I could get to scan my cars? They are both lt1s. One is a 94 and the other is a 95.

I checked the car using shoebox's site, everything seems to be ok. I have around 12 volts on A and D and 3.5v on B. Does this mean that my opti is good and maybe my car jumped time? I'll be working on it today so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I just changed the ICM with one that I had on a spare motor and it is still doing the same thing. I'm not sure if my other ICM is good though.

My opti did somthing like that and stranded me 55 miles from home and a $200 wrecker bill. I replaced the optispark and it cured it. Much of my ignition system is newish so after I checked fuel rail pressure i knew opti was crap. You got a good one if it made it to 250K. My 93 Hawk is at 178K now. Good luck.

thanks man. I put a new distributor on today from oreillys. It is a Richporter Technology opti. The old distributor melted the rotor button and is hard to turn now. I think the bearings went out in it. The new distributor will not start the car either though. I no longer have the 3.5 volts at pin B. I had power there before I changed the opti. It has the 12 volts at the other two pins and is pulsing the injectors. Could this be a bad opti?

Yeah I bought a cheap distributor from oreilly. It is worse than the one I took off. The car will only spark when you let up on the key now. Has anyone bought an acdelco unit from oreillys? They will price match summit.

AC Delco's are definitely the way to go when replacing your opti. Many cheaper knock-offs are just that, and they're not worth the headaches.
