Default Starter problems. Heat soak???

This is the third starter since december.
Its a freaking project car, I only drive on weekends.
The car staarts fine when cold, but when it heats up , and i shut it off, just clicks until it cools down.
The car has a 160 stat in it and rarerly goes over 180.
This last starter i got in just mid july! wtf???
Is anyone else having this problem?
Battery is new , with all new battery cable ends and , ground is tight and secure, on motor.
Stumped!

Do you have headers, and where are they in relation to your starter?

On my previous 415 SB I did a couple of things: I wrapped the headers in the area of the starter with heat resistant wrap and I installed a solenoid heat shield bought from AutoZone (less than $10). Cured my heat/starter issue.

You still didn't answer my question...where are they in relation to the starter? Are they close to it (within an inch or two)?

A cheap heat shield for the starter should solve your problem. Good luck.

I have hooker shorties and my starter is dangerously close to the header. Previous owner went through two starter and rebuilt this one twice. I just had to buy another one and am going to make some sort of heat shield for it so I dont have to buy another new one.
