It's a safety item, if your car gets hit, the motor doesn't just die. They are super easy to wire in and about a gazillion of them in Taurus's waiting to go into a hot rod. You can even get them with a hot output when activated so you can put in an idiot light and tell if it got activated (might make troubleshooting easier).

I bought the Mustang inertia switch sold by Summit to mount it my conversion in the interest of safety. Impact or roll-over and it shuts down the fuel pump. And yes it has a normally open in the connector that you can run to an indicator in case it gets tripped.
