HID's Illegal?
So, I got pulled over today because my lights were blue. Thy arn't excessively blue, just 4000K. I didn't get a ticket, but the cop told me that they were illegal? I was just confused.
is there anything i can tell the cop for if it happens again?

They are illegal. I never have gotten pulled over for mine ::knock on wood:: but it's true. The only "legal" HID's are projectors. If you get pulled over by the cop again, then just take a picture of your car with regular headlights on and take it the judge to have the ticket dismissed. That is, if, the judge isn't a ***** about it.
If it happens again after that, then I would just obey the law and take them off, or get some projectors.

not only are they illegal but they are retarted. why do u want blue head lights? the diffrence between 4k and 6k is clearly the color. 6k being more white-ish and 4k having a more blue tint to it.
not only does it look ricer imo, but its very distracting when its comming to u.

Maybe try aiming your lights down a lil more, had to do this on my 95 dodge several years back..I got pulled over a couple times for my lights being "too blue" or "too bright", readjusted em a lil and never had a prob again.

they are not about being ricer. if you get a decent color anywhere between 5000k to 8000k they look nice and help out so much more when you are driving especialy for those with foggy headlights. and yall are all wrong 4000k is not blue thats acctualy closer to a yellowish color. 5k and 6k are white, 8k, 10k, 12k are all blue. anything above a 8k is considered illegal as many stock cars have hids without projectors and they are usualy 5k or 6k.

Yeah, HID retrofits into a reflector housing are illegal. True projectors are not. I hate HID retrofits, they glare, have no cutoff, and don't look good, again because they have no focus.
Now the BLS HID kit looks sweet.

Down here in the valley cops have told me countless of time thats as long there not pointing so high that they blind you or cause an accident they wont pull you over for it, not in the other hand in south padre island those cops will pull you over and tell you to get those lights off asap. especially around spring break.

Keep an empty pack of silverstars with you (dot approved). Show them to whoever's asking. I'm sure your ballasts are already hidden, even so, they might not know what to look for anyway.

Every set of non-projector HIDs should come with a free bolt on wing...
Its good to know that you can see all the people you are blinding. Those of you who dont get flashed...its probably because people KNOW you are running HIDs and are busy staring at the right side of the road so they dont crash. lol

I used to have a 2000 Ram with 10" of lift sittin' on 37" swampers AND 8K HIDs in the stock housings.
I would just like to apologize to the world. I got flashed all the damn time. I couldn't point them any lower, otherwise I couldn't see. Now, 4 years later, when trucks pull up behind me in the TA with just regular old halogens, I get pissed, much less HIDs!

oh, mine are in projectors. they arn't in the reflector housings, I wouldn't want to blind people.
I checked again, and they are 5000K.
and my ballasts aren't exactly hidden. If I do get an actual ticket, I will just put some cheap bulbs in there, and switch them after the court date.
