Another Tire Thread
I'm not really wanting to jump to a 275 yet and would rather stick the OE size, however I found if you go to a 235 in the rear you open up a lot more doors.
So far I've found these.
OE:
Hankook Ventus V4es (on car now, they're ok)
Continental ExtremeConti DWS
Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (OE tire, were already changed)
If I go to a 235:
Falken Ziex ZE-912
Anyone have any input on these? Any others I should look at?
Winter and price is a concern.

Also look into BFG G-Force KDW or KDWS.
I have the KDWS on my car and love them. Only issues is no warrenty at all on the BFGs and they tend to wear pretty quickly on the drive wheels (which won't be that much of an issue if they are always on the rear).
KDWS does great in the snow. I had no problems when caught in a big snow storm last year.
KDW tires aren't as good in the snow and probably wear faster but they are grippier on dry road and do really well in the rain. They'll be my next set most likely.

i have firehawk gt's on the front of my car now 235/50 and in dry wet conditions they grip well for being to small. I dont know if they are a winter tire or not but they are great for dry/wet conditions.

I run the G-Force KDW's as well, but they are NOT recommended for freezing temperatures or snow. And they're not cheap. I don't have personal experience with the KDWS' but if they are half as good in the snow as the KDW is in the rain, it should be a good tire.

Without spending a small fortune, and staying somewhat in the OE range, it looks like
Hankook V4 es
Falken Ziex ZE-912
Dunlop DZ101
I've only read 1 review on the V4 that it was terrible in the winter.
Does anyone have any experience on either?

In the same boat, gave up trying to find Conti DWS tires, every place I checked claims the manufacturer says 60-90 days out for new stock (which means nobody knows really, but it will be a long time and that would put me another 5000-7500 miles on my end-of-life RS-A's). Probably going with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, I fear the dreaded tire noise will surface sooner rather than later, so looking for some recollections on those who have tried them. General/specific impressions?

The good:
- Good grip in dry weather, I'd have to say better than the OEM Goodyear RSA's. I haven't pushed them too hard on freeway ramps yet, but I'm expecting the cornering to be better than the stock tire.
- Good traction in wet weather - drove through my first really bad storm yesterday with no issues whatsoever.
- The tires look great on the car. Very aggressive sidewall and the tread pattern looks cool.
The bad:
- The tires are directional - thus, only front-to-rear rotation.
- Contrary to the reviews on TireRack, I find the tires much louder than the stock tires. The noise can best be described as a constant "WHOOSH." I figure it's either the tread pattern catching a bunch of air (doubt it - the GY Eagle GSD3's on my Vette don't make any noise, with a similar tread pattern) or simply the tread compound (I'm thinking.) Whatever the cause, it does get a little annoying. Driving through town with the radio off, it sounds like air is rushing by the car, when in reality the tires are creating the noise. I fear the noise will become progressively worse as the tires get some miles on them.
Bottom line: I will not buy these Michelins again. And at their price point, there are other alternatives that may work better. The performance is there, but personally the noise is too annoying. As always, remember that these are just one person's opinions.

Don't know about winter, but I've hear negative things about the KDWs. I think the tread pattern fools people. Both straight line and in corners seems to leave a lot to be desired. Personally, I've had really good luck with Dunlop Duranza DZ101s. They're a little pricey but they really do hook. No word on mileage yet though...they're pretty soft when they get warm.
