Default block align bored now timing chain is too long....now what

Got my parts back from the shop and the timing chain is to long. Where do I get a stock timing chain that's shorter?? I have seen them for sbc applications but not lt1. Just need a little info on this thanks.

I would contact Cloyes. They made the OEM timing sets for GM and have shorter chains and larger crank sprockets to correct the exact issue you have.

it's not some one-off timing chain... an lt1 timing set is the same as a sbc except for the water pump drive, and the early opti splines.

you have to run an elctric waterpump with these,as there is no waterpump drive gear on the top timing gear... you also need to prefit the timing cover as it will need a small amount of clearencing because of the dbl roller chain..

-.005 timing chain and gearset.. generally for one align bore
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CLO-9-3145-5/

-.010 timing chain and gearset.. generally for 2 align bores
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CLO-9-3145-10/

you could also check on a single roller timing chain and gearset for an L31 vortec as it would fit also, but same would apply to it as for the electric waterpump and the top gear not having the waterpump drive gear on the rear of it, but no clearancing for the single roller timing chain would be needed..

Yeah I Guess i am Going to Run an electric Pump. Nobody makes a .005 under Timing chain for a LT1. Going to be looking for a used one as i have already gone over my spending limit on this car. O well WTF anyways!

I dont think that would work Seeing As the Crank Sprocket needs to be Exactly 1/2 the size of the Cam Pulley. But There is probably a way to they could make one work. thats Just my thought.

Talked to a friend that is a machinist, he says if you are using the stock LT1 timing chain set that an oversize gear made for a reg SBC with link style chain will work with the LT1 set.

Yeah ordered a chain set from an older one piece rear main seal. Going to run my sprockets and that chain. Pretty sure it will work.

I have posted the PN for the Cloyes oversize crank gear a number of times. Frankly with the 40+mph gusts and rain though I don't feel like going out to the garage to look at the box right now. If you search under my name and "cloyes" though you will find it.

Think it is $20-25 never put one of these on a line bored block so I can not guarantee perfection in correcting your issue.

is it me or does something seem odd here? align boring the block shouldn't move the location of the crankshaft in the motor........

There's no way to true up the mains to each other without taking a slight bit of material out of the saddles, so the centerline will move up.

right but at that point wouldn't you have to run an undersized bearing to make up for the difference......we did that with mine and i had to run an std upper bearing and a .001 under lower bearing......idk just thinking outloud here

Standard procedure as I know it is to shave some material off both saddle and cap interfaces to get the parting lines inside of the intended diameter, then torque caps to block and align bore/hone. It sounds like yours was nearly true before any machine work was done, so you wouldn't have seen any effect on the timing set.
