Default Tire option for 18x10.5

The 295 tires look too small for my taste. But anything bigger than that is a drag radial. What am I left with?

I'm in the same boat as you. Here are the options I'm considering for my next tires:

Mickey Thompson ET Street II:
305/35R18

BFG TA Drag Radial:
315/30/18

Toyo Proxes TQ:
315/35R18

I like the Nitto NT05R, but it doesn't come in any good sizes (sidewalls are too tall for my liking).

Hope this helps!

I think the 305s are perfect for a 10.5 wheel. Not to wide or to narrow.

your left with either getting a 295 street tire or a 305 DR. I had 305/35/18 Nitto 555R DR's on my 18x10.5 rim and it was perfect

I'm planning on picking up the 305/40R18 Nitto 555R's. I know the "norm" is a 35 aspect ratio but I want a tire that'll fill up the wheel opening and it's 27.6 inches tall. I'll gain sidewall height compared to my current 315/35R17 Nitto 555R's which will be good for traction (disregard the increase in rotational mass).

Check out the Toyo Proxes R888. I just got 2 BRAND NEW R888's shipped to my door for $320 off of Ebay. BTW they are 315/30/18.

I think my 295 BFG KDW2 seems pretty wide for a 295. I'd rather have a 295 street tire that will last awhile over a slightly wider 305 or 315 tire that has half the life of a 295.

I thought Toyo R888's were more geared towards auto-crossing?

I've been looking at the same 3 tires but they are all a drag radial.

I've looked at the R888s as well but not real sure about them. The car is not a daily driver by any mean. Drivin on weekends and maybe once a week to work. I can make a DR last longer than someone who daily drivers their street tires.

Just for the love of god don't mount a 285 on it no matter what anyone tells you. Impossible to guess, but I believe that is what cost me my corvette. The tire broke the bead and went bye bye. 315 is a much better fit IMO.

'02 transam, u would be correct. There's actually been alot of debate over these tires when I searched them. Some love 'em, some not so much. I guess it depends on what application they are used for would decide if they're any good or not. FWIW, a lot of the vette guys and especially the mustang crowd seem to like them.

How about these tires?

Or the R888s

Any experience with either?

I tried BFG drags for the street, 315/30/17.......complete crap dry traction. They blow. Wet, of course, just a light drizzle and you'll be all over the place.

If you want a great dry gripping tire and an amazing tire for wet too........Goodyear GS D-3. It kills the BFG drag in dry traction all day long "on the street".
Handling is amazing too.

the fed ex man should be dropping them off 2morrow and I'll probably get them mounted sometime in the next week or two. No, I haven't driven on a set yet but I kinda rolled the dice with these because of the price! Like I mentioned, when u search these tires, you will get mixed reviews. But that goes for about any consumer product, unfortunately!
